I'll carry a more than a few fond memories from the event.

Friday my wife was "enlisted" to help Dale B. with the POG lunch preparation.  For her help she was presented and proudly sported her official helper chef's hat presented by Dale.

Saturday evening/Sunday morning the Bean's almost looked beaming every time they were near the Berkshire bought from Ollie.  Bob's wife gave a very cautious eye to those who ventured near afraid someone was going to knock it over.

Sunday morning meeting Fred Hayes and his wife were a bonus.  My wife decided to give a bowl and some water to a theraphy dog that was panting heavily and had come with their friend.  As my wife sat down for a bit JP sat down next to her and began discussing the Penton family pets <priceless>.

All politics aside... The VMD event should be about keeping the sport alive, the people, and supporting the Penton Owners Group.

I got lucky a few years ago when Hodaka was the honored motorcycle. The Hodaka folks arranged for a truck to transport bikes from the west coast back to Mid Ohio for around $300. The company I work for has a plant in the Chicago area (Deans and Maries Dressings and Dips)that I arranged a visit to after the weekend (free airfare). I hooked up with my friend who has Bultacos and we drove over from there. It was a great weekend and was extremely affordable all said and done. Wish I could pull of that deal again!

Dick Mann and his west coast buddies used to do a deal where Jim Cameron would pull a trailer with the bikes and gear from the west coast to the eastern events.  They showed up a few times at the Ohio Valley BSA Owners Club trials back when it was an AHRMA national, plus numerous other events.

Jim Cameron was one heck of a nice guy, it was great to sit around in the evening and listen to those guys tell of the Big Bear run, Catalina Island, as well as many other historic events that I used to read about as a kid. The first time I looked towards the announcers stand and saw Dick Mann standing there I was thinking I needed to clean my glasses :)

There was a west coast rider that came with them that rode a big 500 single in the trials, I think it was a Royal Enfield, he sure put on a riding school for all in attendance.

It would be great to see more of you west coast guys at the event, but the time and expense involved is considerable.  Just keep in mind that Father Time keeps ticking away....

Just looked at the photos - great stuff.  I have to admit I find the PUCH in the final photo one of the prettiest bikes I've seen.  I mentioned Tim Ferguson earlier - he is actually on a "high pipe" Elsinore in one the photos.  Very Fast.

Mick - thanks for the "inside" info on Gary Ellis' TWO laps of the XC course, which I understand was run backwards this year.  That would have been fun and different for sure.  Glad to hear ya got a good motor out of the deal. ;)

Bob, I was the one who tried to set your finger during the PV hare scramble. Hope I didn't screw it up more!  Stork
