I love your questions :)

In looking for the answer I went to the John Penton book, on page 69 it states that the AMA had no affiliation with the International Motorcycling Federation, FIM, at that time, so John Penton had to obtain his international license through Canada.

In 1974 I had to obtain this license to ride in the ISDT in Camerino, Italy.  My license was issued by the FIM through the AMA and is referred to on the license as Driver's international license. The license for the 1974 ISDT was valid only for the days of the event, Sept. 9 -14 ,1974.  It states on the license that it was supposed to be returned after the event, but I aw, forgot to return it....

In the Dec. of 1962 Cycle World magazine, the one with John Penton pictured riding his BMW in the ISDT on the cover, it states that John
was supported by the Germans and Bud Ekins on his Triumph was supported by the English during the event.

The article goes on to state that despite riding under a Canadian license, he left no doubt about his nationality, riding with a red, white and blue striped helmet.

This link will take you that issue on eBay, but after the auction.  I could not find one on a current auction.

Hope this helps to answer your question.

Roumors saying I pushed John into a ditch are not trough.Proof:John had # 126 and I had # 180.If I had being close to John....He would have being in a lot of trouble.
Fact was that everybody who saw John riding a 250 BMW Streetbike with knobbies felt very sorry for John and where wondering how many kilometers he may manage on the first day before the bike would kill him.;););)

JP probably did pretty well on the braking test if that is a disc brake up front.

Ha...yea, a tiny little drum single shoe I'm guessing.  I have a very small twin shoe on my 66 Triumph in the back that's not good for anything other than to keep from rolling backwards at a stoplight.
