It is with the blessings of Dot Wilford that I am making this post.

Doug is no longer at his home, but fortunately the care facility that he is in is very close to his home, making Dot's frequent trips each day a relatively short drive. Dot tries to be there for Doug's meals in an effort to get him to eat, as sometimes he doesn't have much desire to do so.

Having visited Doug several times recently, with the most recent time being yesterday, I am sad to say that things could be better. Doug's room is adorned with numerous photos of family and friends, along with a large poster of an exploded view of a Sachs engine along with some Penton memorabilia, including an early Penton brochure featuring Doug in several of the photos.

Dot is working tirelessly in tending to Doug, as well as keeping up with the home and accompanying property. If you wish to send a card to Dot and Doug please use the following address.

In closing a quick Doug Wilford story is in order..

Doug often told of how he and John Penton were driving the Cycleliner home from out west during a winter storm, traveling on interstate 80. Doug was at the wheel, he told of how the gates that were used to close the interstate were being closed as they sped by several exits, keeping the Cycleliner's momentum up in the deepening snow, I am sure you folks can picture the scenario.

As they crest a hill they saw cars and trucks having a difficult time making the next hill, as they drove towards the valley Doug said it was easy to see that there was a deep snowdrift ahead, deep enough that he was concerned that a car could be buried in the snow.

Like a true enduro rider, Doug knew he had only one option if he and John were going to make the next hill, he put the coal to the Cycleliner and sped into the snow drift just hoping that no car was buried in the drift, fortunately that was the case and he and John crest the next hill with little difficulty. They soon drove out of the worst part of the storm and made it home safely to Amherst....

Doug is in a bit of a storm now and your thoughts and prayers for not only Doug, but for Dot and the rest of the Wilford family will surely be appreciated.

Just saw some clips of Doug in one of the stories we were cutting on the Penton film. Hang tough Mr. Wilford. You made a lot of people happy keeping their bikes running.
