I have a 73 jackpiner with what I believe are stock girling shocks. One shaft has some minor pitting. I haven't ridden it yet so I don't know if the shocks are good. If I need to replace them, What shocks would be good for competition?

For competition you need modern shocks, either Works Performance, Ohlins or Marty Tripes/Noleen.

They can't have reservoirs for vintage, correct?

Correct.

I don't think the AHRMA gods even let bikes that had them as OEM equipped like Thermal-Phase (Yamaha reservoir shocks) run them.

Dale, if you do not have a use for the original shocks and would sell them, give me a call.  I would like another pair for a restoration.

Piggyback reservoirs are legal, so Marzocchis or the Yamaha Thermos are legal, but remote reservoirs are not. You dont need either type of reservoir on a 4" travel vintage bike anyway, so its not a big deal.

Thanks guy's. I'll look into this more.
Keith, I will keep you in mind. Would you have something that would work for me? Maybe we can work a trade?

I don't have anything that would work for you, but I do know those Works Perfromance are nice.

Keith, I will let you know what I end up doing. If I don't use these stock shocks, I'll contact you.

I have the Works Performance, Hagon, and Noleen on various bikes. The Noleens are two or three times the money, but four times the shock!

If you are just doing light trails riding, Hagon or Works are fine.  If you are really gonna mess with the bike, spring for the Noleens. I intend to fit Noleens on all my vintage bikes from now on.
