Greetings,

I know this isn't Penton related, but... Did you ever wonder how the Jawa motorcycle got its name?

The founder of the company had the last name of Janecek, and his first motorcycle used a 500cc four stroke engine made by German manufacturer Wanderer, hence Jawa. This is according to an article in Motorcycle Classics.

Another interesting note is that Mr. Janeck originally was into manufacturing arms, but with the declining demand for weaponry he started into the motorcycle business....sounds familiar with BSA and surely others.

Thanks for indulging me, but I find these tidbits fascinating and thought that some of you may as well.

Husqvarna was founded in 1689 as a milling company using the hydro power of the river in Huskvana Sweden to bore cannon barrels for the Army. The name is a contraction of two words meaning "house of milling" or "Husqvarna."
