Friend is seeking a vintage ride for this year's ISDT RR.  Numerous other irons in the fire, so he's hoping to score a near-runner-ready PE Suzuki, KDX Kaw, or IT Yamaha - cheap.

Sorry to post this on POG, but you guys got all kinds of stuff stashed, so I know this is a good source.

Please let me know.  Thanks.

Here you go. I'm in the St. Louis area and could possibly help with pick up, but could not deliver. The bike is located about an hour drive from my house in north St. Louis County. Not much room to store but could squeeze this in for short stay.

IT's make good ISDTRR bikes. I might be able to forward that bike from Dan to Ohio areas soon, or if your friend likes PE's, I have a 78.5 RM250 that I dropped a good running 78 PE250 engine in that I would take $800 for delivered to Ohio area. Could use better shocks. Mike [email protected] or cell/text 618-553-1346 These would both be post Vintage class bikes

Mike:
Ah ... the '78 PE Suzuki, my last competition motorcycle ride, following Dad's selling the Penton distribution to KTM. Suzuki factory & crew did mighty fine by me (thanks Mike Russo) and mid season provided a factory pipe that made quite a difference. The bike nearly ran as good as Carl Cranke's custom Penton/KTM cylinders!

While trying to figure out why the original RM250 engine wouldn't rpm out past the midrange and deciding to pull it completely down only to replace all the transmission bearings, since the rest was in top shape, I stuck the PE250 engine in the RM chassis and with the RM pipe and carb, it runs almost as fast as the RM engine! If you didn't know it was a PE engine you would think it was the RM one. I think the RM stator is bad, as I replaced all other ignition components on the RM engine, and of course the PE ignition was all separate components for that engine, including the coil and CD box. You can change the carb and air boot without learning new derogatory words. Parts are also plentiful and cheap. I have a few of them all. He did say cheap, right. Cheap and Penton don't coincide. Mike

You are so right Mike!  I too have a PE 175Z, that I love!  The bike is super reliable, and a lot of fun to ride, and as you said, easy to work on.  But all in all, the Penton's have much more "cool" factor!

I have a nice clean 1980 IT 175 he can have for 600.00. Cc let me know if he has an interest. Solid bike...

Don't get me wrong, Pentons are the top in my garage, but I would much rather work on something easier and cheaper and save my Pentons for riding around home. The ISDTRR usually takes a heavy toll on bikes where I am concerned, (overweight and under conditioned). Mike
