jetting question

Hi All, I'm getting my 73 jackpiner ready for mx rewind. I rode it for the first time tonight since I did a clean up of it last fall. I bought it from the original owner. I believe it's on the original bore with good compression. it has the original bing carb. I don't remember the main jet but the pilot is a 30.on low rpm it feels sluggish till it revs some. On an incline tonight it lugged down and loaded up. The air filter is paper and clean.Im around 1100 ft above sea level. What should I be looking for to correct this?

Last night I did some checking over the bike and I found the compression to be 125 to 130. I took it apart last night and will get a piston and bore and see how that works. I think it could be the problem.

Doing a complete bore job maybe the a good thing to do, but before you do, check the specs on the piston and rings, if the piston is still good shape, a new set of rings and a quick hone job may suffice. Do a vacuum/ pressure test to make sre your seals and gaskets aren't leaking. In fact that might be the place to start and then pull down the top end to see where you are.

I did check the specs at the beginning of the winter, I had to have a lower rod bearing and rod put in. New crank seals were done then too along with new head and base gaskets. Are these engines like the modern ones where you have to set the X dimension? I can't remember if I had to do that last year. It's hell getting old, the memory leaves me a little more each year.

Personally at 125 to 130 I'd have left it alone, down to 100, then you go in.
