You have a 1975 400.  The 411 means it was built in November of 1974.  The 55 in the engine number designates a 400.

Mike,

Can you tell me what model this bike is;

Frame # 54 411 79195
Engine# 4- 5500794

Thank you,

Bryan

I thought it was a 175 from the pipe exhaust tip design. The 54- frame designation was used on 175, 250, and 400's as well. The 250 would have a chrome conical shaped outlet. A 76 175 engine ID would start with 6-52 above the ignition cover on the right hand side of the engine. Mike

Check out the Wanted/For Sale section.  toocloseracing had a 1976 250 MC5 for sale as of August 8.

Thank you, Nick. I am talking to him about it.

He's asking $2,500.00 but said he'll knock off $250.00 because it needs a new motoplat.

What do you think of the price? Is it fair?

It is a well sorted out bike.  Wish I could buy it.  My advice if you want a nice MC5 is buy it, put a PVL on it, and never look back.  The MC5 Penton is one of my all time fave bikes and I have raced a jillion bikes over the years.  It was a couple of years ahead of it's time and in 76-77 was many privateer pros bike of choice.

Larry, I appreciate the advice.

I'm struggling between a 250 and a 400.

The 250 is far easier to ride but the 400 is doable with the bigger flywheel and short shifting it so you stay out of the big hit.

Thank you for that. I have been riding 250 Huskys and they don't do well on big hills. I do a lot of trail riding here in Texas.

I knocked a few bucks and advised Bryan to put it towards a PVL ignition, I already have the coil.  No current issues, but my other Pentons are full PVL and I'm convinced it's the way to go - would have done the same with the 250 if I had kept it.

Mr. Adams is all in, we are making arrangement.  Thanks for the referral, guys.
