Since o-ring Chains are usually too wide for the stock chain guides on earlier Pentons and MC5's, has anyone had experience running a 520 X-Ring chain? I faintly remember someone mentioning they are slightly narrower than o-ring chains and what I have read is they are more resistant to dirt and debris. Mike

I used 520 o ring on my 74 jackpiner and 250 and a 530 o ring on my 73 jackpiner I just cut the chain guide, they all work great no problems

I kind of like the fact that they claim less horsepower loss compared to an o-ring chain, although on a 250 it doesn't really matter. Mike

Mike, I believe X ring is about half way between roller chain and Oring chain in thickness. Not 100% but memory from selling them at my shop recalls it that way.  Definitely not as much of a horsepower soaker.

Thanks. I'm building a 76 TS185 that I would like to try one out on first. Mike

What is "X-Ring chain, and why do they call it that? I don't think I have ever heard that term before.

A sealed chain like an o-ring chain, but it is x shaped cross section or squared on the edges, so less drag, and supposedly better sealing. Do a search on the web for a pic. Mike
