250 Penton oil drain plug

Seeing the previous posting was a reminder to me to actually change the gearbox oil on my 1974.5 Penton (6/74). Being a CZ guy, I am thinking the drain plug is not in (what would be) the usual place, like the bottom of the motor. Is this correct? Seems like I have heard horror stories of people removing what they thought was the drain plug, only to find out that it was otherwise, like something to do with kick starter, but maybe that was a Sachs motor or Zundapp? Anyhow, any help is appreciated.

On the KTM motor it is on the lower side on CS sprocket side.  Sachs is underneath but not the hot ticket to remove that one.

....and the add oil bolt is underneath the float bowl? Seems like there are two of them, one on the left side and one on the right. I remember a funny (not so at the time) story involving my cousin. There are two also on a VR Montesa, I believe it was. My cousin put oil on the wrong side and it drenched his ignition in oil,  and was a pain to clean it up. So, I don't want to repeat that embarrassing moment on the Penton.

Both oil fill plugs lead to the transmission case. It doesn't matter which one you use to add transmission oil. The odd looking plug on the bottom of the cases is in fact a retaining bolt for the Kickstarter mechanism or spring. Do not remove it. Mike

The oil fill should have a nipple on it for a vent line.  It is important that the tranny is vented.  A 1/4" flexible line should be run up under the tank to insure mud and water doesn't get in it...

Either top trans plug is nasty to get at, unless you pull the carb or min. rotate it a qtr turn. Also, something Ive just learned.  If the chain on your Hare Scrambler gets a smell to loose it will actually grind the top off your bearing cover which houses the clutch actuator. A direct result will be serous oil leak and a new $200.00 bearing cover.
