Hello my name is Ron Sherfy and I am a new member with a 1974 Penton Berkshire 100 Craigslist find. The bike appears to have some modifications to the swing arm and after market shocks that I can't identify so please give me your thoughts on the identity of these. The pipe has been modified also and the fenders are Preston Petty. According to the previous owner the bike is a two owner bike and ran well about 6 years ago since then it's been tucked away in dry storage. He also incuded the mag cover which is also modified plus the left air box cover/ number plate complete air box and an original service manual. I plan on restoring this Penton and will share progression pics as I go. Please let me know what you think of the old girl and enjoy the pics. I hope they open as I am a little new to this.                                                                                                                     http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1325/13781774/24831762/414167210.jpg   http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1325/13781774/24831759/414167203.jpg

It would be a long haul but you should come to a POG meeting. They are the first Thursday of the month. I am in Thompson, Ohio if you ever get this way. Don't just restore it....ride it.

Done a little cleaning today and noticed some spiderweb cracks on left side of tank. I was amazed at how nice the color looked once all the funk was cleaned off. Should I seal the tank as I believe there might be a leak up high on the left side. The chrome on the forks are in great condition although they are due for new seals so I will be ordering replacements. I will check with Larry on the seals to see if nos are still available. Any suggestions on replacement shocks? We will do a complete engine rebuild also before attempting to start it.   http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1325/13781774/24831900/414168679.jpg   http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1325/13781774/24831900/414168682.jpg   http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1325/13781774/24831900/414168681.jpg   http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1325/13781774/24831900/414168677.jpg

A little elbow grease goes a long way looks good. Looks like your on your way. Hope your gonna ride it and not make a trailer queen of it. Always admired the small bores. Always though they were harder to be fast on. A good rider can make them haul though, love it!

It will be a rider for sure and more of a mechanical restoration with a little cosmetic. My nephew wants me to keep it just the way it is in appearance but I am on the fence at this point. If I could find the side panels that have matching patina and front number plate then maybe I would go the rough around the edges route. We will freshen up the motor first and then the other mechanicals and see where we land by then on the cosmetics. thanks for you interest and please check back on the progression.

Kept my Harescrambler orginal as 1974/75 period as I was riding and racing at the time. Bike looks a lot like it would have at time of riding with no resto needed. It still has original Ceriani gas shocks at rear in great shape. Recently looking at shocks I saw that it had the clear plastic cover at the top of the springs. Been there since 1974. Time capsule. Good luck and will be waiting to see more pictures. William

Great find. When deciding it's future, just remember... it can only be original once. Personally, I keep my Pentons original.

Planning on going though the motor soon to completely freshen things up. I am currently installing new wheel bearings seals brake shoes and tires. I am looking for original style Penton white front and rear fenders that have matching patina to the rest of the bike. If anyone has a set for sale please drop me a line.

Cleaned carb today and hoping someone can confirm if this is the correct carb. The carb is a Bing number 2/26/76 and appears to be in good shape other than a plugged up pilot jet and some old jelled fuel in the bowl. The jetting is #35 pilot and a #140 main                                                                                      http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1325/13781774/24831900/414195127.jpg   http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1325/13781774/24831900/414195126.jpg   http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1325/13781774/24831900/414195125.jpg  http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1325/13781774/24831900/414195128.jpg

Fitting up some new fenders as the old Preston Pettys are very brittle and turning to dust. Also installed left side number plate/air box cover just to confirm it clears the rear shock as the shocks have been moved forward at some point. I am going to repaint the side cover and need some help with proper color match. Does anyone have the red and the yellow paint codes?                                        http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1325/13781774/24831900/414220213.jpghttp://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1325/13781774/24831900/414220214.jpg
