Wanted- Looking for a source for replacement NOS cup and cone style wheel bearings used on the pre 1972 Sachs and DKW bikes. These are 3 piece bearings which consist of separate press fit outer and inner races that are threaded onto the axle tube and have captured loose ball bearings between the races. Pictures are available. OR, if anyone has had success retrofitting a normal standard one piece bearing, I would appreciate a reply so we can discuss your modification.
Thanks for looking, W Nelson McCullough

Back in the day there was a kit to replace the loose ball bearings. It was an aftermarket Co. & used a sealed bearing. Its been so long ago I cant recall who made it. Sorry. :(

Pat, Thanks for your response and input.   I'm pretty familiar with fading memories. If you later come up with that old time conversation source, please pass it along.  I have to believe that they located back then a stock one piece bearing that fit the race outer-hub fit, and made an axle tube to fit the inner race and any other bits required to make the conversation.   We have considered that possibility also, but was hoping that somebody else came up with that, and could give me a head start with a bearing part number.

Hi Nelson;
   At the printing company I spent 20 years at, we had a book from Nachi Bearing that had just about everything listed by size in one section. If you can come up with the OD, than calculate an ID using "looks about right", then an average width, you can probably look it up on line. There are even bearings out there with combination metric and standard, ID,OD, and widths. Your local bearing house should have engineering spec books with similar listings. Cross over the dimensions to find the bearing number. I did it on lots of "mystery" bearings on old pieces of equipment. If you can get some one to post the pictures of the original assembly, I would just like to see such a monstrosity! Must have been a real booger to assemble!
   Good luck with it!

Nelson are the front and rear wheel bearing sets for that year the same? Also if you send me a picture I may have a set, it's been awhile since I've repaired Deek  wheels [email protected]
