November POG meeting

Greetings,

  My how time does fly ! The November POG meeting with take place on Thursday November 7th. at our usual meeting location in the KTM building just west of beautiful downtown Amherst, Ohio.

 President John Penton will be giving the wooden block a good solid hit with the gavel as close to 7 pm. as possible. The amount of satisfaction that JP seems to get from startling everyone with his slam of the hammer is fun to watch, just hope the wooden hammer holds together...

   Looking forward to another evening of POG business with a good dose of Monkey Business mixed in as well.

Entertainment plans are already in the works and this is one evening of POG fun and food that is always a good time. Be sure to bring along your family and friends who might have an interest as we love seeing the room bursting at the seams:)

Wow, another great meeting last night.

A good turn out in people attending.

It was interesting listening to John explain his going into the Merchant Marines during WWII. How he transferred to another ship after his experience with war in Russia thinking it would be a little safer being on a ship in the Mediteranian. Witnessing the bombing of the allied ships unloading at the docks in Bari, Italy and the resulting destruction (it was called the 2nd Pearl Harbor, in Europe) left him thoughts of divine intervention. His ship was sitting out in the harbor waiting for space at the dock to unload their shipment. If his ship had been at the docks he would have died. 16 ships were destroyed, 8 others damaged that night from a 20 minute raid by Nazi planes. There were huge explosions from armaments on the ships and docks, oil and gasoline were burning from tanker ships, and many died from mustard gas that was secretly on board one of the destroyed ships. 85 sailors and civilians died from the effects of the mustard gas.

As explained in the movie, John took some time off after the Italian cruize to visit his family. He wasn't home more than an hour when the FBI called.
At the POG meeting John talked about how he still wonders how the FBI found out that he was at home.

It was another interesting POG meeting.

Agree, that was too funny.....she'll be missed....but most likely not so much by John [] She was drafted into God's army in 1973 or was it the other place? [}:)]
