Asking for help, I have a what I believe is a 68 Penton 125 VIN#  V458
My question is did this bike come with a front number plate mounted on a bracket that holds the speedo like the 69,70 and early 71?
I bike is very complete and I have an extra bracket just wondering. I have looked and have not seen any photos of a 68 125 with the front number plate.
Thanks in advance for your help

Good question, I was about to ask that very same thing.
I saw a picture of the '68 you have Gary, VERY NICE original bike.

Hi Gary, to answer your question of : My question is did this bike come with a front number plate mounted on a bracket that holds the speedo like the 69,70 and early 71?

I am assuming you mean this bracket.

I don't think so, as one had to buy an enduro kit to get that bracket and the enduro items needed to turn an out of the crate Penton Steel Tanker into the enduro weapon shown in the link below.

If you were asking if it would be ok to use that bracket on your machine, I would feel that unless your machine was a very early model with the large painted bullet headlight that came from the factory only on the very early machines it would be fine. Was that bracket only created after your machine was produced, possibly so, but unless you were really splitting hairs as to what would be "correct" according to a production time line, why worry about it. and it looks great :D

Just my 2 cents....

I was going to call you about this but thought I would just ask the group.
And yes the photo of the bracket that you posted it the one I have.

My bike dose have the large painted head light on it. I have not seen any photos of an early steel tanker with the large headlight have a front number plate.
Thanks

Gary, in researching my answer to your question in the photo section of this site, I came across this photo in the Penton Steel Tanker photos.  I think it looks pretty cool but I would once again say it most likely didn't come that way.

As you know, I just moved and all of my Penton literature, mags and research materials are still packet away so I have nothing to document my thoughts.  Possibly someone else will come up with an early Penton advertising piece that will prove my memory wrong.

I would bet that you are right as usual when it come to Penton knowledge you are the man.
I will just keep the bike as is.

1968 came with only front hella large headlamp. No speedo, no brake lite. Those items were added later. See 001 parts manual
