Hello to all.

At the age of 57 I find myself remembering back to my younger years and some of the bike I had as a kid like the Husky cr125 and the husky 450 desert master and then I had what I think was a 72 to 74 penton 125 and may other different bikes to many to list. anyway one day I was riding my penton 125 and this guy came out of nowhere on a penton 250 and we started talking about our bikes and he suggested we swap bikes and go for a ride to which I agreed well after the ride he wanted to trade me my bike for his. Well I said hell yes because I really like his bike and I think he wanted to trade because he was a smaller guy and maybe his was to much for him. anyway I don't remember the year but what I do remember is the rear shocks was in a vertical position, side plate said 250 gs6 and it had a big exhaust with a big chrome tip. I really what to find one even if is just part of one that I can restore over time. any help with the year or leads would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Desertfish,
Welcome to the Penton Owners Group website. The large chrome tip exhaust pipe was used on the 250 Penton from 74-76. What color was your 250 which may help narrow down the year.

I don't remember but maybe white ? I will ask a friend that knew the bike.

My 1976 400 across Country has the chrome baffle, as well.

I would love to see a picture if you have one. what would be the difference between the CC and the gs6 ?

Cross country and the gs6 has a different frame. the backbone of the frame is much rounder and larger and the tank for the gs6 is unique to that frame. The gs6 does not have a chrome tip but the cross country does.

I'm confused because the bike I had did say 250 gs6 on the side plate and also had a huge muffler with a big cone shaped chrome tip. the rear shocks were in a vertical position and looked like they only had about 3" of travel..

And the Cross Country has lights so is street-legal, at least in some jurisdictions.

Lights could have been ordered or installed at the dealer on almost all Pentons and could be made street legal with the title including the Hare scramblers, Cross Country, GS6 and later KTMs. Hi-Point even sold a rear frame rail to mount a full fender with a tail light for MC5's. Most MotPlats had lighting capability with the exception of the internal rotor models.
