I need a little help. I have a 72 Penton and I need to know where to buy bearing races for the fork assembly, top and bottom. I also need to know how much FL.OZ of oil in each fork.

Hi Mike and welcome to the Penton Owners Group website !!

If your talking about the steering crown bearing races, Try Al Buener in the suppliers list on this site. He just obtained some not to long ago and has them for 39 bucks and some change for the whole crown :).
I'm not sure about the oil amount  and the viscosity, someone will chime in.
Happy trails

32mm Forks 135cc. this is a good starting point as there are many ways to tweek the operation of your forks.  Please make sure the ball check in the caps are free and working.   When you remove the screw there is a spring and a very small ball probably stuck in the bottom.

and the controversy goes on , the Penton manual recommends 1/4" ball bearings...
(.250)  the metric equivalent = (.277) or 7mm.
On a humongus Industrial Comparator, that .022" difference looks like a mile !
The 7mm contacts the surface of the race much more than the 1/4"
JMO !~!

I used .250" or 1/4" balls I obtained from McMaster Carr online. Real inexpensive, they ship fast and worked great on my Six Day. They have the stearing head o-'rings as well. I just painted the frame for my next endeavor, a 72' Berkshire and have enough balls left over to do that one as well.

Rimmy,
Just select "Home" at the top of this page and click on "suppliers" which is the 3rd choice listed from the bottom, appearing just to the left of the Christmas card on the home page.

I have 2 different frames that I am building into bikes from scratch, and have already found  the majority of parts for, a 1977 250 MC5 and a 1979 250 KTM. Do these steering heads use the same .250 1/4" diameter ball bearings and o' rings, and my 1980 KTM needs the o' rings replaced. Are these all the same size? Thanks.

Rain Man, it's my understanding that all Ball bearings are measured by the inch. Even the ones that are made over sea's. I could be wrong about this. I remember that we have a bearing man in the group, maybe he could shed some light on the subject. Gavin

Rain Man

Gavin, all I can tell you is what I'm seeing on the races  on the bikes I've worked on.  The races themselfs are always excessively worn right smack dab in the middle of the race.  I'd expect to see them worn all over the whole face of the race, not just in the middle.
The steering crown bearings are not an excessively loaded or forced bearing and not prone to failure. The recommended 1/4" ball bearings have worked for years.
I have access to 7mm ball bearings and will use them.  Time will tell if this works or not.

I have a ton of the stearing head o-rings. The smallest pack I could buy was 100. I will never restore that many Pentons and actually only need 4 pairs to finish my heard. If anyone needs o-rings send a stamped self addressed envelope and I will put them in the mail to you.
