I just got my DKW 125 going, but the petcocks leak too much to ride the bike. (See post under wanted - petcocks).

This bike is orange with chrome sides on the gas tank, leading-link front suspension, sunburst head on 5A engine - What model is this?

Hmmm, sounds like my '71 DKW 1251/5A. However, mine has a brownish/copper tank with chrome sides..maybe yours has oxidized? If yours has the aluminum sunburst head with 3 lower fins cut off to allow for a side pipe exhuast, I believe its the '71 DKW MXer! A mighty fine steed indeed! I've got spares if you need some.

One man's 'Orange' is another man's 'brownish-copper', I guess. It is quite oxidated. I need petcocks!!!!!

Dino: Can you possibly list the spares that you have? I would also like to know about the rear seat mount; mine has what appears to be a "Home Depot" general-purpose galvanized hinge clamped to the rear frame rail that the seat pivots up from. This arrangement doesn't look 'stock' to me - what is yours like?

GrandPaul, there isn't supposed to be a hinge
on the seat. The seat base should have a bracket rivited on it. The bracket bolts to the frame in the rear and behind the gas tank
in the front. E-mail me about the petcocks.

All 3 of my DKW/Sachs have a hinge from fender to under rear of seat. . Stock.  Front of seat bolts through bracket on frame.  Seat hinges to service airfilter

Petcocks have been a problem.  Please post source when you find one.  I've got some new material from Olson Gaskets but haven't make new washers/seals yet.

If my DKW has the hinged (at the rear) seat, is Orange/Copper with chrome sides on the tank, and has leading link front suspension, radial finned 'sunburst' head on a 5A engine, square-pattern holes on the expansion chamber heatshield and a very triangular air box, is it indeed a '71?

Looking at a DKW forum, I still cannot determine whether my 125 is a '70 or '71; they appear to look identical from the 2 pictures I saw. I also saw a '72 which had a totally different heatshield on the pipe so I am narrowing it down to '70-'71. (Could it be a '69?)

I'm on my third Sachs/DKW (69, 71, 72)and none of them have ever had a hinged seat. Unless they are older. Bought the Sachs new back in 1969, the DKW new in 1971. The 1972 aquired recently. GrandPaul, check these sites.
