I raced my 97 jackpiner at my first race since 2001.I got some positive comments on the bike.( I was running penton graphics)The bike ran excellent as it always does.I'd like to thank fellow pogger(I think)Kevin Brown for putting on a excellent race.I will probably run the piner in as many of the enduros and harescrambles as I can afford. For and 11 year old bike she still rips.I ended up with a 5th in senior b. Not to bad for only riding 3to4 hours in the last 3 years.Well I'm going to soak in epsom salt again.I would encourage any of you to check out acesraces.org and come out racing. What a blast!!! I guess I'll be looking for a route sheet holder and score card holder.I ended up sticking the piston to the cylinder in 6th gear wfo on the street but was able to grap the clutch and coast for a bit and dump the clutch and she was able to gimp back in. later

What gearing do you run on your '97.5 Jackpiner 200? I have one too that I run occasional offroad events on (my "modern" bike) and with 14T/52T rear, 1st gear is on the too-low side and 6th gear tops out at about 40mph unless you really scream it (prefer not to). Pretty sure there's not enough room for 15T up front and I'd have to get down to about 46T in the rear to make a big enough difference--which I fear is too small to for chain clearance on swingarm @ pivot.

I heard that KTM went with higher ratio 5th & 6th gears in the '99 and on 200s, but don't know for sure.

Thanks, Mac

Hi Joe,

The video is not of Kevin but rather the link was sent to him by a participant.  Kevin is the trail boss for the Athens MC.  Come to think of it, a helmet cam on Kevin would be very entertaining but I'm not sure it would survive the ride[xx(]!  If you're interested I can try to get the email address for the helmet cam rider if you would like to ask about his system.

I was enjoying the thought of a Kevin-Cam,  but think of the embarrased younger guys it would show being  passed...

Several people have e-mailed me regarding the equipment used in this video.  Kevin's wife Amber was kind enough to track down the info from the rider, who had posted it on ktmtalk.com.

On ktmtalk he stated:
"i run a chase cam DVR , sony 520 camera , helmet camera.com extreme mount, crushproof waterproof box, lanc switch, and sony mic, it records in 720x 480 @ 8.8 mbps which is dvd quality mpeg2.. it makes awsome dvd's..or you can put it in mpeg 4 320 x240 @ 2.3 mbps which is what yu guys were watching online.  total investment $1,200 +++ ouch"

Hopefully this helps a little.  I believe the rider in question posts under the name MackMack on ktmtalk if you need any more info.
