Lew, Prices at local Target:  Polar F1  $60,  F4 $ 93  Yikes!

Bojo, Congratulations on #5 and on your desire to make life easier on your suspension. Email me at [email protected]. I've got some training material you might find useful.

Thomas, To some it may seem that I take my racing too seriously.  (I don't think that I take it seriously enough.)   But, I've found through the years that if I want to succeed, I've got to work at it.  Most things don't come easy.  I've worked hard at getting my bikes in shape and am making progress.  Now, I find my body lacking ... so I'm working to fix that.    Times have changed.  The plastic metal trophies have given way to imitation wood plaques.  There are a few real iron men in vintage racing but most of us are more like something from OZ: the tin man, scarecrow, or cowardly lion.  I'm having fun and it really is about the relationships built with the great people who are attracted to this sport.  But it is more than fun and people.  When I line up, race hard, overcome bike problems, rider error, fatigue ...and I take the checkers, I get a great sense of joy and satisfaction.  "Never let the little boy inside the man grow up, because it is the little boy inside the man that brings joy to life."  When I race, I'm a little boy.

Phil,  Thanks for the wonderful photos – memories.  It's all Brian's fault.  His enthusiasm is contagious.  Let's do it again!

Ernie, Isn't it great that we all can get our joys in different ways!! I saw you race a grass track event in Ark. and the kid inside you should have been very happy. Are you riding modern bikes also? I know several of the iron men are out there also! Talk about burning the candle at both ends!

Phil, The photos looked great!

Ernie,
I know what to do on training,I just have to get my tail out and do it.I coached High School Football for years and now I coach my son in Jr High.I sent several of my offense lineman (we refered to each other as Fat Boys) to college programs like Vanderbilt,MTSU and UT Martin. We were firm believers in the Bigger faster stronger training regiment. But you can't coach speed!!!

We had a 5 year span 2000-2004 and went 57-5 with only 1 regular season loss.We played you Chattanooga power Boyd Buchanan High often.

I am racing the Hillbilly Classic Enduro in Clanton,Alabama this weekend on my modern bike.I will get back trimmed down to my college playing weight eventually and maybe I can keep it on the gas for the whole race.

But I like the monitior and I am going to get one.Good luck at West Virginia and see ya'll at Casey.

Thanks for the info, and come over at the races like Brian and talk to us and the one legged old man!!

Heart rate monitor?
Never paid any attention to it.
Perhaps this post should be labeled, where do I find a quite place? Was it the podium, on a Penton?
Yes, it is a quiet place.

Remember our Soldiers, they have hearts too!
