Decals & Decal Removal???

My 72 SIX-DAY decal has turned into a perfect negative version of the original.  The PENTON SIX-DAY  is clear/green and the background is now white.  I looked in the archives and in 2005 Scott Brogran, suggested using woodgrain and stripe remover and adhesive remover for the glue residue.  Rocket, suggested using contact cleaner or wilbond for the left over residue.  Since I have neither tonight, I have been using a razor blade.  Very SLOW

1. Has anybody tried anything else or is there a newer/better way to get the old decals off?

2. I bought the replacement PENTON SIX-DAY decals from Al B.  Does anybody know where to get the white stripes.  Maybe I should have asked Al B. If he sells them?

I had good results with denatured alcohol and paper towls for the residue. keep soaking it and it will eventually get soft enough to come off. I would also recomend useing a peice of wood with a sharp edge rather than a razor blade. you will be a lot less likely to scratch the tank. I use a popcycle stick or a tounge depressor and sharpen it on my sander.

Not having done this I'm guessing a hair dryer or hot air gun would soften the adhesive without damaging the paint. My best guess.

  Great idea on using the sharp wood instrument.  You wooden boat building expertice is expanding over into the POG site.  Thanks for the tip.

I have used a hair dyer to remove old decals and it works really well. It especially works well on those old decals that are brittle...

I have also had very satisfactory results from using a heat gun/hair dryer, followed up by adhesive remover - in my case, "Goop-Off" brand product.

The only thing that seems to be working is the sharp stick.  The decal is just too far gone.  Thanks for all the info.
