Penton Racing Talk / new 100 cc Class
December 08, 2007, 11:14:18 AM
This new class is great.  I can remember 100cc classes with 30 to 40 bikes on the line.  It's an art keeping these little bikes moving.  As for the rules I'm sure Dick, Robert and the others will see the light soon and make proper class adjustments.

By the way was there any negative feedback regarding the Sachs D model motors staying in the classic class?.

Gosh I wonder why no Monarks.  I own 14 of the little rippers.  Actually only 7 are runners the rest are projects.

Anyway I've got other places to race my 100cc Monark. To be honest with you,I no longer care what AHRMA does.  I'm fortunate I have several NON AHRMA races I can attend year round here in Oregon/Washington/California.

I'm building my Monark 100.  If I have to put a five speed in it, no worries. I seem to remember someone talking about simply blocking out first gear.  Is that possible?.

If so how is that done.  Anybody got some killer top end port spec's for the 100's.

Viva Washougal!

Penton Talk / Penton- Husqvarna 250??????
November 20, 2007, 04:44:17 PM
Very interesting.  In close review the head is consistant with a 360 "sloped fin head", like on my 1967 360 Bolt-Together Husky.

It's possible it could be a very very early 250 with the Magnesium cases.  I have one on the shelf, with a sloped back fin style head aswell.  But that motor is out of a 1965 or a 1966 250 Husqvarna.

Never the less very cool bike.  If I had a frame I'd build one to race in the Classic class.

Penton Talk / Sachs rod kits

Doug, when you say "Hitting The cases, B and D models" are you refering to a set of stuffed cases, or are you talking about hitting the cases on the bottom.  I'm confused.

I have two rods from the last batch, and intended to use them on another B stuffed case engine, and on a D model regular engine. Thank you in advance.

Mac, the picture is actually after the start straightaway, right turn down that hill, into what is reffered to as "The Marsh area". We looked it over, it still there with a bit of track left to see.

Keep in mind the track has 30 years over overgrowth.  WE have our hands full cleaning it up, personally I'm looking forward to the challenge. Hope you can make it, like my earlier post stated we are planning on doing the 1974 track as close as possible.

Penton Talk / HELP WANTED for Sachs D AHRMA Rules Change
September 14, 2006, 10:21:01 PM
Knute, my Data in support of the D model motor is complete "Monark prospective" .  My focus is the issue at hand, not the politics. I did not chastise anyone or their business.

I did state my feelings and how absurd this whole issue is and how it came to be.

It is very important for ALL the Trustee's to vote collectively on the merits of this issue.

Penton Talk / Milled Heads
May 05, 2006, 09:56:37 AM
I have several Monarks with GS motors and 2 GS PRO motors. " Stuffed case models".  The stuffed case models both have 20 th milled from the head from the factory.

On the GS motors they also have had the heads milled 20 th.  All are very powerful 125's. My question I guess is can 60th be milled from the head the base is almost flush with 20th milled.

MY GS ported D model Monark motor also has 20 th milled from the base of the head. The spec's are available on the Vintage Monark page under the TIS section.

Don't know much about Pentons, the frame seems to be an aftermarket or special.  Look at the welding to cobby for a Penton.  Kinda reminds me of a Cheney frame.

Gavin are you sure your not 180 out on the timing. I had that problem on Bill Cappel's Husky awhile back.

4 years ago I built a killer 125 Husky.  Best of everything money could buy.  First thing I did was put the piston in backwards.  Caught that fairly quick.  Then I some how got the Mikuni slide in backwards.  Interestingly enough the bike ran but only on the very top end.  I won both motos. I was later commenting to my engine builder the problem.

My friend Matt Waldron pulled the carb top and laughed for about 1/2 hour.  He then anounced my boo boo at the trophy presentation. I was pretty embarrassed.

Penton Talk / Scammed?
November 29, 2005, 09:59:26 PM
I have a suggestion, call the dam cops. You have the answers call the Sheriff's office in that county and tell them your story.  Be prepared to defend your position and your investment.

Have copies of your money orders available and confirm that he cashed them.  This chump is commiting fraud and theft in the amount of money you have sent.

If they won't help e mail me off line I'm in the business and have friends in low places in that neck of the woods.

Penton Talk / Piston etc for Sachs 1251/6B GP (long)
November 24, 2005, 10:35:41 AM
Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving to everybody.  IN looking at a stock sachs piston I see that they are pinned at 6 and about 7 1/2 like you mention.  The GP designator is also interesting to me, I've never heard of that before and wonder what it really means.

In looking over the Swedish register for Monarks I have looked at the bikes that are GP tagged.  I only noticed one visual difference,on one of the bikes, that being a Pro Fab swing arm.

I have been trying to locate some of those GS pinned pistons if I locate any I'll email you.  It seems to me that your problem is in fact that the ring ends are exposed to the ports which is hanging up.

Another thought is to re pin the stock piston ring posts, which is a real pain, however its a potential solution to your problem.
