I think you guys are on to something....  I will give it a try this weekend.  I suspect you are correct, no spacer required.  Thank you all for chiming in....  LS

Did that, talked to Matt, said if I could get him dimensions, he could make me one.  With that said, if anyone has one they could measure for me and get dimensions to me, that would work as well...  Thanks again for responding.

Noticed the Sammy Hagar guitar in the background. You will have to get a bottle of Cabo Wabo Tequilla to celebrate the completion of your bike. Nice job so far.

Thanks for the kind words Gavin.  The fish is a 22+ lb red fish I caught here in Texas many years ago.  The bike on the other hand is a resto for Skip Page who lives in Arizona.  I did his other '71 Steel tank which is next months pic in the POG calender.  I hope to get this one close to that one or nicer.  Leaned a lot on the 1st one and I believe ol Skip is right when he said  that though I'm a CZ guy, I just might have some Penton blood running through my veins afterall.

LS  (all for fun)

I like the fish. Looks like a great start. The front end really caught my eye, sharp! I owned on of these beauties in years past.  If the rest of the bike is as nice as this you will have yourself one nice ride. Keep us up to date. Gavin

Thanks Tom and Doug.  It took a lot of guys and parts to get this bike to where it is now.  I just wanted to make sure that Skip got a bike he would be proud of and I certainly had the right guys helping me.  Take care.  LS

Thanks Skip, it was pleasure doing this project.  I know you had a blast tracking parts that were needed and I know I must have called Al 200+ times asking for parts as well.  I have Ron's number memorized so you know how many times him and I have talked.  Great guys all of them.  You were right on the money with regards to Mr. Doug Wilfords work and Kevin at Circle-F.  I hear he is taking on a lot of work these days with this new pipe out.  Need to get a few CZ's out then it is on to your next '71 Penton...  Should be as fun as the first..

Take care all,
Lawrence (//www.vmxrestorations.com)

Getting closer now.

Hope this link works.  If anyone wants a couple of pics of where I'm at on this project, you can contact me at //www.vmxrestorations.com  Feel free to sign the guest book at the top of the front page in blue letters.

It goes without saying, but I'll say it, many many thanks go to my buddies Skip and Ron C., along with Al Buehner, Mr. Doug Wilford, Ed James, and Jeff Martin...

Will have more pics in the near future.

I sent one of the '71 Penton 125 steel tank bikes I have to restore and a good pipe to Circle-F in the Houston area to have a stock pipe built.  My good friend Mr. Ron Carbaugh was in the Houston area and offered to pick up the bike and pipes and meet me just outside of Austin yesterday. That new pipe looks great.  If any one out there is in need of a stock pipe that is nearly an exact replica for a '71 Penton 125 steel tank, you can contact Kevin Felle at Circle-F Exhaust.  His number is (713) 467-1488.  I just got off the phone with him and he has 2 orders already.  If you would like to see pics, please email me at [email protected] and I'll send you some of the pics I have.  The new pipe will be installed on the other '71 steel tank I am restoring sometime this week.  This bike is about 90% restored and when I get pics of that one I can share those as well if you would like to see them.  I also would like to thank this group for all they do....  Lawrence

May 16, 2006, 11:04:20 AM
Does anyone out there have or know of a place where I could purchase nice original handle bars for the '71 Steel Tank I am currently restoring?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Lawrence
