Penton Talk / Jim Pomeroy
August 16, 2006, 12:14:54 AM
I was shocked and saddened by the news of Jim's passing. Although I didn't know him personally, I did have the chance to see him race in SoCal back in the mid 70's. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Jim was a class act, he will be truly missed.

Penton Racing Talk / 1969 Jawa 360

Quotequote:CZ is more of a MOTORCROSS company and Jawa was more interested in ISDT / Enduro bikes. Jawa made more street bikes also. CZ also made guns.

Didn't Jawa also make speedway bikes?

Penton Talk / seeking info on "Mettco Penton"

Ahh, The good old days!  Ascot on Wedsdays, Irwindale on Thursdays(?), Lions on Fridays, then on the weekends at either Carlsbad or Saddleback... I really had it bad back then... ha ha!!!

I don't recall the KTM lower end on Bowers 125... but, he did also race the 250 class on occasion though.

And Tim Hart raced a DKW?... never saw that either, but then again it has been over 30 years and the memory ain't what it used to be.[:0] Hart rode a Maico for Bob Bailey before he went to Yamaha... I know that because Bailey's shop was about a block from my home.

Uncle Donny did port work and built a pipe for my 250cc Maico back in 74... if FMF can't make your bike fast, nobody can. [8D]

Penton Talk / seeking info on "Mettco Penton"

Hi all... I'm new here, I just discovered this forum.
It's been quite awhile but here's what I recall from my CMC days.
I had two 125's built by Mettco back in 72-73. So I used to hang out there quite a bit. I do remember that Fred Hayes was one of the nicest people you could ever meet. I was not a Pro, but yet he would take the time to help set up my bikes. Also, some the top 125cc riders at the time worked there; Chuck Bower, Bruce McDougal, Danny LaPorte and Mike Garrett... and they were always happy to give advice and share racing stories.

I know this is an old thread but here is a link to
Hayes Diversified Technologies:

I spoke with Mike Garrett about five years ago and he was working at FMF, he's another you can contact about Mettco history.
