Penton Talk / Competive MC-5 125?
November 28, 2007, 01:19:30 PM
Chris,
Cannot be much help, the bike performed poorly and it was later sold. It had been taken back to dealer/shop several times for repairs but never had much luck with it in competition, just did not run right compared to the Penton 125 Sachs model. I did hear later the bike was just used for trail riding and ran okay? Good luck with your project...

Penton Talk / Competive MC-5 125?
November 28, 2007, 11:57:08 AM
I have to agree with Dwight on the 1976 125 (KTM engine)we had numerous problems with the 1976 model---- seized, blubbered, hard to start etc. It ran poorly compared to the earlier Penton/sachs 125 engines and was not reliable. We ended up getting rid of it after a short time (3 months)and moved on with the mc5 250 and never had problems with the KTM 250. Never paid much attention to the KTM 125 model after that to find out if the bugs got worked out, luckily I kept the 75/76 Penton 125 with the lay down suspension and the sachs D series motor, which still runs great.

Dwight,
I agree, with the better deal part, my brother in law had the 1976 (KTM motor) 125 six days but had many engine problems with it, and ended up getting rid of it, after only using it for six months. I am Going to keep the 1975 model after all of these years, but thanks for the purchase offer. t.c.

Is this one with the Canted shocks or the standard 73-74 type swingarm ?

Yes it has the canted shocks. I purchased the Penton at Lake cycle in Grand Haven Michigan in the fall of 1975, and wanted it due to the canted shock mount. (I was replacing my 1974 Penton 125 six days which had the standard mount.) It was not long after I had gotten this Penton that the new 125 models were using the KTM motor replacing the Sachs.

Wanted / For Sale / New style clutch bearing race
March 15, 2019, 07:34:46 PM
Okay everyone, have a friend in kalamzoo MI who is rebuilding a 250 1977 motor for an mc5 frame and he is looking for the small bearing race for the new style clutch actuator (76-77 ) engine models that  penton used....the bearing race is approximately 1/2 inch diameter? and the rod is one length with a cup (and small bearing race) resting  against the throw out shaft from the actuator/clutch cable....Al Buehner does not have any available, so checking with you penton owners for the race if you have one available for sale?   Contact thom coles, cell # 269.303.8373, or thomcoles@gmail.

p.s. Still looking for a 77-78 GS muffler for a 250/400 penton that has been completed, using the mc5 or mx muffler now, but would like the GS with the larger resonator end piece and muffler to keep it quiet!!

Wanted / For Sale / WTB "1977" GS muffler
March 12, 2019, 08:44:35 PM
Fellow Penton/ktm owners....looking for a "1977 GS enduro style muffler for a turtleback 250/400 frame penton rebuild I am working on.... This would be the muffler with the large resonator end piece bolted/screwed on the end. Willing to consider muffler with or without end piece since parmabike (Roberto) has the end pieces available. Possibly a 1978 GS muffler would fit the turtleback frame also, but not positive on this? Please contact me at thomcoles@gmail or cell #269.303.8373 or text etc. thanks for your response t.c.

Penton Talk / 1975 125 Six Days running again
June 01, 2007, 04:02:17 AM
Wanted to let you fellow Penton owners know that after working off and on this past week on my 125 six days it is now running. I had parked this bike in 1977 after getting a new 175 Jackpiner. I had used it through the fall of 1977 and thought the last enduro with it was the Black Coal National, but in the route sheet holder I had the route sheet for the 1977 Jackpine in Moorestown MI.? (memory fades)
Anyway it had sat in the barn since that time with the usual thoughts of someday I am going to get it running again. Several years ago I had realized the carb slide was varnished/glued in place and petcocks on the tank were completely plugged/varnished. After getting a new air filter, plug, and the usual tank and carb cleanup, not wanting to admit to the mouse nest in the high breather area, it started on the 2nd kick!!
The sound was a TIME transport and probably all of you know there is something about the engine noise while sitting at IDLE ready and waiting. I just dropped it into 1st and took off....it runs just like the day I had parked it. Obviously it could use some new items such as number plates (cracked/scratched/beatup) and fenders which have yellowed/chalked with time, But it is now another Penton up and running. At least I was excited about it!
Thanks for all of the information all of you share on this group which I have checked the past couple of years off and on. Many memories are re-kindled, tc

Wanted / For Sale / carb rubber -- sachs/ lectron
May 28, 2007, 04:24:22 AM
Penton Owners,
New at posting, so bear with me.... I have two Pentons that I need parts for. I have checked with Mr. Buehner but no parts available. Maybe someone has an idea where to locate the needed parts? Or maybe some other type of solution? Any advice or info are welcome.

The first is a late 1975 125 six day with the Sachs "D" motor
(I think this was the last sachs series motor used in 125?) I need the rubber bolt on mount to the cylinder head which is checked/cracked. This item was a molded rubber mount using bolt through connection to the cylinder

The second item is for 175 Jackpiner (1977) with a Lectron carb. I need the offset rear rubber boot coming from the aluminum airbox
(mc5 frame) to the back of the carb.

Thanks in advance,

Thom Coles, Paw Paw  Michigan
