Penton Talk / Clutch problem
May 06, 2009, 09:17:47 PM
Ted - You're right. The clutch lever was pulled to the bars. I meant to say with the clutch disengaged. I sure hope it's not warped clutch plates, because they had about 20 minutes use on them.

Is 700cc too much oil?

Thanks for all the imput guys.

I'll pull the clutch and check for warped discs. Any helpful tips on making adjustments inside the case?

Thanks again,

Rick

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all kind words.

You guy's have an eye for details. Guess I've got a few more "finishing touches" to do. I think I have a line on a shifter rubber, loosened the chains a bit, need to adjust the brake pedal some.

I do have a question on fuel mix. Will the premix be the same on the Berkshire as it is on the Six-Day, 14oz Golden Spectro per 5 gal, about 45:1, premium pump gas? Or use a race/pump gas blend?

LG,

Actually I have both a B and a D motor for one bike. My inital plan is to set up the B motor as a 100 and the D motor as a 125. Right now I'm working on the B motor. I believe AHRMA has a 28mm limit on 100's.

If you have an extra intake manifold for a D motor I'll buy both the intake manifold and the 30mm Mikuni. The D motor (non-stuffed version) I picked up came without a intake manifold.

Thanks for your help,

Rick

Thanks for the feed back guys. The 74 (S/N 409 77634) I picked up I believe is a standard Penton. It has the "D" cylinder, 6 fins & bolt on carb intake, but it isn't stuffed. I did locate a picture of a stuffed version on the Vintage Monarch web site.  It also has 3 rear shock  adjustment locations on the swing arm.

Now, where can a guy purchase a carb intake manifold[?] The one on my bike is homemade. I'm guessing it must have worked way back when, but, it sure doesn't look all that good.

Thanks again for all the help,

Rick

Penton Talk / Clutch problem
May 06, 2009, 02:08:29 PM
I recently entered my freshly rebuilt 74 Berkshire in a VMX race. The first time I ever raced a 100 of any kind.
One of the problems I'm having is at the starting gate when I engage the clutch at low rpm's everything is ok, but, when I rev the motor for the start the bike wanted to get going.

I know I have something wrong, but, I don't what. Knowing me it's probably something simple or, over looked.

It's a new clutch basket, plates, springs, 700cc Golden Spectro 80W. Pretty sure I have the clutch adjusted per the manual.

Any suggestions,

Thanks,

Rick

Hi All,

Just put the finishing touches on my 68 Six-Day and 74 Berkshire. Actually the Berkshire was a 125 in it's prior life. Originally they were both built to race this year in the Pacific North West, but, the 68 is looking way too nice and a little fragile. The jury is still out on that bike. Maybe one time at a AHRMA national?

I want to thank ALL of you good folks at POG for all your help, parts, and information that was needed to bring these wonderful bikes back to life. I DO know, that without your input I could not completed these projects by myself.

Thanks again,

Rick

Penton Talk / 74 Six-Day chain guide
February 17, 2009, 04:18:12 PM
I was on the phone with Al B. ordering a set of chain guide brackets for a 74 Berkshire I'm putting together. The question came up about needing a chain guard to install the chain guide. I wasn't planning on using one. Is one needed, if not, are there any modifications needed on the chain guide?

Thanks,

Rick

Does anyone have an extra 27/28mm Bing or Mikuni carburetor they would be willing to sell[?] I'm in need of one for the 74 Six-Day I'm putting together.

Thanks,

I just picked up 2 Pentons. Both are 74 Six-Days. One has a 6B the other has a 6D. What is the difference between the two motors.

Thanks,

Rick
