Wanted / For Sale / Re: WTB clutch actuator

Hi Carl,

If you have not found a replacement bearing plate, give me a call. I have a magnesium one and a plastic one (like the lower one in your photos) in my inventory.

Penton Talk / Re: Boxing with JP, well, sort of !
January 31, 2025, 12:12:16 PM
Paul thank you for sharing that story with everyone. I have heard you share it at POG meetings many times and I always enjoy the way that you tell it.

Thanks also for sharing the photo of the inside of the Cycleliner. That photos shows how you guys were able to get "all the clowns inside". I have seen many photos of the outside of the Cycleliner - never any of the inside.

Penton Talk / new photos are now posted on the website
December 18, 2024, 04:21:42 PM
Hi everyone,
A new batch of photos has been posted on the POG website.
They are photos taken by Debbie Houghton in 1997 and are of the special Penton display that I put together at the AMA Vintage Days event at Mid-Ohio where I had John Penton show up and do autographs.
This was a special event in that with all the excitement that was created with the display and John being there, this resulted in Paul Danik and I holding meetings at Dale Baris's Penton Honda shop in Amherst and putting together what is now known as the Penton Owners Group.
John Penton was also excited to see all the people that showed up. In a couple of the photos you can see him showing the x-rays of his back operation that he had earlier that year where several of the discs in his back were replaced with carbon fiber discs and held together with titanium screws and rods.
Jack showed up and brought along the new limited edition KTM 200 Jackpiner and 125 Six Day bikes that are also shown in the photos.
Take a look at the people in the background of the photos and perhaps you can see yourself if you were there.

Penton Talk / Re: Malcolm Smith has passed away.
November 29, 2024, 03:24:26 PM
I am grateful for having had many opportunities to Malcolm Smith. He became my off road motorcycle hero after seeing the "On Any Sunday" movie. One of the places that I met him was at the AMA Museum in Pickerington, Ohio where he was attending the KTM dealer party held on the AMA campus. There is a video with Ted Guthrie interviewing him on the POG website.

There was another time I met him. It was at the Indianapolis dealer show. He was walking down a hallway on crutches. When I asked him what had happened he said that he had fallen and broken his hip the week before. Most people his age would have been at home resting. Not Malcolm, there he was after flying on a plane to be at that Dealer show to see all the latest products being offered by the motorcycling industry and meet their reps. Simply amazing.

I have read Malcolm's book and there are no tears from me over his passing. I am relieved that his bout with Parkinsons is over. He had cheated death more times in his lifetime than a cat has lives. We are all blessed that he managed to survive until now.

I am glad that you enjoyed the article on Dane Leimbach. I am grateful for having the opportunity to meet and get to know all of our Penton heroes during the past 26 years of the Penton Owners Group.
I am currently working on going through a huge batch of photos from the years 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000. I am getting them sorted out and arranged in order and identifying who and what is in each photo. These are all actual photos that have been in a couple of photo albums since they where shot. I am converting them into a digital format so that they can be posted on the POG website in the photo collection page. it is my hopes that if you were at these events it will revive the great times that we enjoyed. If you were not there, it will give you an idea who the people looked like and the wonderful displays that were put together.
The year 2000 photos were of the Penton AMA feature marque displays that we put together for the Sears Point California vintage days and the Mid-Ohio Vintage Days events.
By the Way at the AMA Vintage Days event at Mid-Ohio, our Penton display in the huge tent that was provide to us by the AMA has never been surpassed by any of the other feature marque displays. We knocked their socks off!
Stay tuned for the photos showing up next month.

Penton Talk / latest POG newsletter #105 is in the mail
November 13, 2024, 10:35:55 AM
The latest POG newsletter #105 was mailed out last week.
A special member profile on Dane Leimbach is in this issue. Since Dane is no longer with us, I reprinted the article that he wrote for the very first POG newsletter #1 which he titled "Penton Motorcycle?". He started out his article talking about himself back in the 60's when Uncle John was putting together the Penton motorcycle. Now back in the beginning the POG we did not have any "Member Profile" articles until issue #5. In issue #4 Ed Youngblood wrote up an article about John Penton titled "A Life Less Ordinary" which was sort of a member profile.

So, for Dane's member profile, I put together a group of recognition stories shared by various people who knew Dane. These are under the banner "Dane Remembered". From the feedback that I have received from a couple of people who have read it, they could not help but be teary eyed while reading it and I also had the same emotional response. This was what I had in mind when putting this article together in honoring Dane.

There are other good articles in this issue and some interesting things under "Latest News".

If you have not received your copy of this newsletter, then

1) your membership has expired and you need to renew it
2) you are not a paid POG member and you need to join
3) you moved and did not notify us of your change of address

After reading your copy of this newsletter, post your thoughts about it.

Penton Talk / Re: Any news on Al B. condition?
October 29, 2024, 11:44:05 AM
The last time that I looked in the mirror and saw Al B he was looking good.
He is alive and experiencing wellbeing. In fact he is feeling really good today since the POG newsletter is finished and off to the printer.

The latest POG newsletter is now in the mail.
It is another great newsletter with some current photos of John Penton (he will be 99 later in August) and a wonderful article about Greg Johnson who at age 17 was the youngest Penton dealer.
Included in with this newsletter is the latest Membership Directory.

If you do not receive your copy of this newsletter by August 12, then there could be a problem,
1) we do not have your current mailing address
2) your membership expired and you have been taken off of the mailing list
3) you are not a POG member

You can now pay your membership dues online on the POG website with a credit card or Paypal.

Penton Talk / Re: POG message board usage
July 16, 2024, 12:46:24 PM
This is latest update on the discussions that were held at the June and July POG meetings concerning the disposition of this message board because of the lack of activity.

The POG webmaster, Bill Smith and his assistant, Karen Turner, were at the meeting to provide information about the website and the message board.
After a review of the facts and figures regarding the usage of the website vs the message board, a motion was made and passed by the board to keep the message board up and running and that the unused categories be removed.

All is good.

Penton Talk / POG message board usage
June 07, 2024, 10:46:21 AM
With the decrease in the number of postings on this message board, it was suggested to the to the POG board of trustees that the message board be shut down.
A discussion was held about this at the June POG meeting and the consensus was that there is just too much valuable information that is on this message board and that this information should be archived.
At the July POG meeting this will again be discussed and a motion is to be made as to decide the fate of the message board.

So, what are your thoughts about this?
Your comments and feed back will be presented at the July meeting and help the trustees with making their decision.

Alan Buehner, Secretary of the POG board of trustees

according to the 1968 Penton 100-125 spare parts manual #1
there are no lighting accessories shown.

according to the 1969 -1971 Penton 100-125 spare parts manual #2

The brake light switches became available with the 1972+ Penton CMF bikes.

Hi Ski,

Thanks for showing a photo of your bike. It looks great and is a fine representative for the US and Penton brand.
I see you not only finishing the event but also having a lot of fun before, during and after the event.

Penton Talk / Re: Ron Carbaugh
June 04, 2024, 02:02:57 PM
Ron was a long time customer and friend going back to more than 25 years. He had a liver transplant 20 some years ago and I would joke with him that he should be eating a lot of onions and ketchup because they go good with liver. He was a fun and informative person to talk with. A lot of knowledge of motorcycles and racing from his involvement with Honda. He will be missed.

Penton Talk / Re: Magura trapdoor throttle
June 04, 2024, 01:55:00 PM
All the early steel tank Penton bikes from 1968 thru 1971 came with the Magura trap door throttle for 2 cables. It was the best throttle available at the time (used on the BMW bikes) until Magura revised it and came out with the single cable trap door throttle.
