Penton Talk / Amherst Pig Roast.
November 04, 2014, 10:50:04 AM
Hello! I know we are all still smiling from weekend:) I want to convey my personal thanks to everyone for making the pig roast one of the most memorable days of the year.
The inch of rain from the night before made for a slick trail and the water crossings deep. Eventually the sun peeked out and the trail tacked up.(Could have been from the bon fire!) The food tent was a popular hang out with all the delicious food & heat! I know JP enjoyed your company and seeing the Pentons and other bikes in action.

Penton Talk / Motoplat coil connections
October 29, 2014, 09:51:02 AM
Hi Jim,  Moto Plat connectors may be hard to find at radio shack or an auto parts store. These special spade connectors are designed for motorsports to withstand a lot of heat & vibration. The wide spade connector on the Moto Plat is a 9.8mm double barrel crimp type. The narrow connector is 6.8mm. both wires are 18 gauge. You will need a special pliers to correctly install double barrel crimp style connectors. Please give us a call here @ Penton Racing. We have what you need.

Penton Talk / Amherst Pig Roast.
October 21, 2014, 10:28:43 AM
Okay, Here are the details for Saturday November 1st. I will be hosting a Pig roast/ride from 10:00am to 10:00pm @ the Penton ranch here in Amherst.
Bring your Pentons! Riding starts @ 10:00. We have a fun mile and a half loop through the woods. Hare scrambles type course, not too tight or difficult.
The pig should be ready to eat around 2:00pm with hay rides for the kids and all.
J.P. will be tending the bonfire, so if the weather is cold and rainy, everyone can stay warm.
There will be a food tent to keep everything dry. Bring your own drinks and a dish to share if you like or a donation towards the pig.
Please e-mail me here @ work with questions or google 45640 Telegraph Road, Elyria, 44035 for directions. [email protected]
Hope to see you then[:p]

Penton Talk / fork oil level
November 30, 2012, 08:25:41 AM
Dont forget to stroke the fork to get all the air pockets out of damping rod area then let settle before final measurment. I am supprised how much more oil the fork will hold when taking your time pumping or bleeding the fork when setting the oil level.

For custom suspension springs, I have used "Cannon Racecraft" for many years, they will build any fork or shock spring, tell them the i.d. o.d. length and rate needed. Great people to work with, they build most of the springs for  major suspension companies Phone # 405-524-7223

Hi Mick, I rode this event in honor of Dane, it turned out to be a good & challenging event. It had rained most the night here in Amherst, stopped by morning & rained just a little before the start of the race but stopped for the full 2 hours we were on the course. The soil conditions were acually perfect with the exception of a few mud hole crossings and greasy straightaways. I am just guessing maybe 80 big bikes were on the line and many were regular CRA hare scramble competetors, i did not see any Pentons on the course though! The Meadowlarks did a fine job of laying out the course and running this event,I know it will get better each year. The POG members had a great display with Penton motorcycles and lots of memories of Dane.It was a day to remember and hope to see more of you all there next year!

Penton Talk / '96 KTM exc hot running question
October 23, 2012, 01:59:01 PM
Hi Mike, Does this KTM have the origional ignition? This seems like a stator failure but could be as simple or inexpensive as a wire connector or sparkplug cap. The heat may be adding resistance to the system or expanding the already loose electrical connections. You may want to check resistance between stator wires when bike is cold, then ride the bike and check resistance while engine is hot. 1996 stators were subject to fail every couple seasons from my experience.

Penton Talk / PVL
October 15, 2012, 09:10:05 AM
Penton Racing products also offers a selection of 5 diffrent rotor weights for the PVL ignition. These weights are made of brass & simply install to the outside of the rotor using 4 allen screws. Rotor weight choices are from 6,8,11,14,&17 ounces alowing a broad range of tunability for diffrent track conditions and rider preferance for power delivery.

That depends on extent of damage, if it is minor no, but major, yes it is best to strip cases, it makes pre heating and post heating eaiser. You can always e-mail me a photo of the damage Joe.

Penton Talk / Motoplat flywheel part number
September 24, 2012, 05:05:26 PM
The Motoplat's are hard to mix and match for diffrent applications & are designed for specific engines. One of the reasons Dane came up with the PVL ignitions is to simplify ignition apliciations a bit.If we had the i.d. # we can let you know exactly what your motoplat was designed for. Also what engine do you need this ignition to work with? we do have a few diffrent new motoplat stators and flywheels from the Hi-Point days.

Wanted / For Sale / Sachs engine case repair
September 12, 2012, 08:20:28 AM
Cost for this weld repair service is $65.00 per hr. The repair shown ended up at $150.00. We will estimate any work before proceding repair. Yes side cover repair as well. Turn around time varies as we work around machining and building the ignition systems here. I like to keep turn around within a week or 10 days.
