Penton Talk / Sachs Piston Skirt Repair

I think it happened during disassembly, it looks like the edge was dented and that caused the crack. I will try the new piston approach. Thanks.

You appear to have an aluminum seat pan (the important part). I have had three seats covered by Stitches Auto Tops & Upholstery in Houston. Send me the pan prepped for covering and I will have it covered to match an original seat I have (your expense of course).

Also, I have a used rear backing plate/brake assy that I would be willing to trade for a left footpeg (welded together style) and an aluminum handlebar spacer.

Regarding the Carb to Airbox Boot, you can easily make one from an inner tube. Start with a 2.25/2.50-19 tube, cut it 2 3/8" long. Remove the airbox from the frame and slip the tube onto the airbox. Reinstall the airbox and then work the other end of the tube over the Amal intake bell using a tool like an allen wrench. Then put a suitable clamp over the airbox tube end and you're done. I can send a tube to you (or anyone else) if you want one.

Penton Talk / Stolen Mudlark

Hello Guys,
Dale got the photos up very quick, Thank you.
It was mine, stolen a couple of nights ago from a storage unit in Houston. It's hard to start and doesn't idle well so it may be hard to sell. Anyway, it's frame number is W310ST and if you see anything that looks related to it then let me know. Thanks Steve Powell

Thanks Ron. That's what I suspected but I thought I'd ask to confirm.

Thanks, I contacted both Ron and Al, both had a piston for sale and I ordered one of them. Neither had cylinder machining instructions and I didn't find any on the website so I have come up with my own plan, see below:

1. Measure the difference between the top edge of the 152 piston to the wrist pin.
2. Remove the cylinder head on the 125cc and measure the distance from the piston to the top of the cylinder when the piston is tdc.
3. Remove the cylinder and measure the difference between the top edge of the 125 piston to the wrist pin.
4. Calculate the difference between step 1 and step 3.
5. Have the spare cylinder bored out to 152cc and install it and the piston on the engine.
6. Measure the distance from the 152cc piston to the top of the cylinder when the piston is tdc.
7. Calculate the difference between step 2 and step 6.
8. Hope that the two calculated differences are the same so the port timing remains the same.
9. If they are then have the cylinder flange base machined to match the number from step 7.

If anyone has a better suggestion please advise.

Wanted / For Sale / Wassel/Woodsman kickstand

I also needed a kickstand so I've made two kickstands from scratch using an original kickstand as a guide. If you want one let me know. Steve  [email protected]

For the Wassell frame you could try Rust-Oleum #7213 available at Home Depot. It is a Hammered Silver. The hubs and many other parts were polished alum, no paint.

Penton Talk / still can't break it free......
October 25, 2001, 11:35:23 PM
I had the same problem about two weeks ago with an iron barrel 125. The engine had sat outside and water entered thru the carb port. I applied lots of Aero Kroil to the piston top, intake and exhaust ports then let it sit for a day. Banged on the piston for a few minutes and then applied more oil. Kept repeating this for about a week. Each time the piston would move down about 1/16" and I would add wooden spacers between the barrel and case as the cylinder worked it's way up(do not expect the piston to move down). The main bearings were very rusted and would only move about 10 degrees.

Penton Talk / Sachs Piston Skirt Repair

I was reassembling my 125cc Sachs when I noticed a horizontal crack in the skirt of the piston. It is about 1/4" long and about 2mm up from the edge of the skirt on the intake side. Can I mill out the damage and continue to use the piston? It would affect the intake timing slightly, would the engine still idle?

I tried to include a photo but was not successful.

I bought a 78 125 CMF from Cycle Shack in Bellaire TX back in the summer of 1977 (I think the year is right). I have the original owners manual but I don't have the S/N. Are there any Sales Records available which could show what the S/N was? I'm interested to know if the bike still exists.

I'd like to increase the cc of my iron barrel trials bike and need the piston/rings/wristpin to do it. Anyone have a set?

I am looking for a Penton trials exhaust system, seat and kickstand. As an alternate, does anyone have a dimensioned drawing/sketch for one of the above parts?
