Penton Talk / George Singler passes
March 27, 2021, 04:02:31 PM
First of all thank you Mike for the very kind words. I spoke with Larry who now owns Smith Rd. Raceway and there is a plan to have a George Singler  memorial race on the 4th of July. I will let everyone know when it's finalized. Thanks Greg

By the way Larry I owe this sickness to you, back in 99 or 2000 at Mid Ohio in the pit's I was headed over to the swamp meet and spotted your 74 250 and fell in love with the Penton's. The rest is history as they say.

Mike it's the guard by the counter shaft sprocket that we all threw away. I have had this bike for many years and finally decided to get it out and put it back to stock. If you guys may have one let me know, give me a call on my cell phone 216-906-9253. Thanks Greg

Penton Talk / 97.5 200LE Jackpiner

Hey fellas I also have a 200LE. The bike we have was purchased from One The  Edge the old Penton, Honda dealership  here in Ohio. The same question came up about what number it is and I spoke with some very connected people at KTM and found out that there are more than the 133 that was said to be produced. I have a small picture of the last serial numbers of all the LE's and it shows ours is #142 out of 151. All the bikes after ours I believe went to certain individuals and media. From what I have been told the way KTM number the bikes is how the owners sent in there paper work. I am not on fb but it would be neat if we could get the LE owners together for a registry. Good luck with your searching. Greg

Penton Talk / 1977 penton 400
March 13, 2020, 08:39:22 PM
Raced a 250 Penton in the Sportsman open class against 400 Maico's and had a problem with them on the straightaways and decided to get a 400 Penton to even the score. The Penton was not quite as fast as the Maico but the 400 Penton sure help. The biggest problem with the Penton's is they are a little heavy, the 400 makes good power but it does not hit as hard as the Jap bikes do. They are fun to ride but at one time they were hard to find pistons for but now Al has them.

Penton Talk / HOW MANY MC5s in 400cc?
March 07, 2020, 08:28:48 AM
I brought up the question at the last meeting about the engine mount and the two position foot peg mounts and there was no real comments on the frames. As far as the colors go they did say that the West Coast did get the different color bikes, they mentioned the white 400 and red 250. One of our members did say he has a blue large desert tank.

Penton Talk / HOW MANY MC5s in 400cc?

There is another difference in frames and at some point they added a bottom engine mount. My 77 250 has the double foot peg mounts but only two engine mounts. I asked about the double foot peg mount but nobody has a answer on how many were produced. And as far as the 3rd engine mount we are not sure when that happened but think it may be late 77.

Penton Talk / HOW MANY MC5s in 400cc?
February 26, 2020, 08:25:39 PM
Yes the plastic is the same, what I should have said that it had 77 graphics on it. The 76 frame has just one outer seat mount welded to the frame instead of an outer and inner. The 400 that I have I change the plastic to West Coast white and the graphics to KTM. I wonder how many 400 Penton's with a lower serial number were sent over.

I have been following you post and I wanted comment on the MC5's. I have a 400 with the serial number of 000870. The engine is stamped with a build date of 76 and the frames rear seat mount is the single plate, the 77 250 I have has the double mount. The funny thing about the 76 it had all the 77 plastic on it and I am the second owner. I will bring this up at are next meeting of the owners group ask the expert session. Jack P took a look at it a few years ago at our IX show and the first thing he was interested in was the serial number and commented on how low the numbers were. I will get back with you guys after the meeting and let you know what was said.
