Penton Talk / KTM (penton) 400 - Mikuni conversion
February 07, 2014, 08:49:43 AM
Hi All
It's been about 7 or 8 years since I posted on this topic. The KTM 400 was re-fitted with the (old and worn) Bing carb, for some reason I can't remember, and sent to the back of the lock-up.

Fast forward to 2014 and I now have a son-in-law who is also a keen dirt biker. We are going to drag the bike out, service it and put back the 38 Mikuni to ride in an up-coming vintage event.

Penton Talk / Riding after a stroke and warfarin..
March 01, 2012, 04:33:54 AM
Hi Fred
Sorry I've come in on this late. I had 2 heart valves replaced in 1999 and have been on warfararin since. As a youngster I rode MX and I always have had motorbikes. I started riding vintage off-road in 2003 and have ridden vintage Motocross and Enduros since then with the most riding taking place in 2008-2010. during this period, I was also able to get a competition licence despite my condition (with support from my cardiologist). I have been fortunate enough to ride 6 ISDT Reunion rides since 2003. I have had a couple of big get-offs over these last years and the bruising has got to be seen to be believed. The biggest drawback of big bruising like that is deep hematomas which tend to leave lumps below your muscles, which take a loong time to go away.
The simple rules are to ride within your physical and fear limits and wear every bit of protective gear you can get hold of.

Unfortunately, I got an infection on my heart valves this year (from my teeth, not riding!)and I'm typing this from my hospital bed - they replaced the valves again! I can't say If I'll be riding soon but I'm full of hope!

Penton Talk / Carburetors of choice

If you are not doing AHRMA racing then you can use a Mikuni flatslide. A good friend fitted a prejetted one from AMS or Vintage Iron to his Maico. The results were excellent - he just bolted it in.
I have also fitted a 38 mm VM Mikuni to my 400 with good results.

What's that bush made of?

Penton Talk / Beware shill bidding on eBay
January 29, 2007, 01:59:30 AM
Hey guys
I reckon any auctioneer, worth his salt, will have a few mates in the crowd. I'm not saying this is ok but it happens. Obviously, in a public auction, wide awake regular bidders will see the pattern over a period of time and the auctioneer will lose custom. With Ebay it's all hidden, therefore the bidder must set his high price, go possibly 10% over if he wants the item real bad. If the bidding goes over that - let it go
