Kent, please email me at [email protected] (not the email they have for me on this site from 100 years ago)  and I'll send a photo of what I have, maybe it can help,  thanks,  Heinz

Bud Green?  Six Days, obviously.  Maybe Germany,  1969?  way before my time by the way.

I have a suggestion... depends on how crazy or determined you are to get it done-  freeze and heat cycle it.  Drop it in a chest freezer for an hour or two, then take it out and use a hair dryer or heat gun on it.  Try that a few times.  You could also soak it in a penetrating oil, wipe it off, and freeze heat cycle it that way.  Good luck.

I was enjoying the thought of a Kevin-Cam,  but think of the embarrased younger guys it would show being  passed...

Penton Talk / steering head reinforcement plate
October 20, 2006, 09:24:30 PM
I think Kent diagramed this reinforcement in a newsletter, or maybe I just imagined it.  I've bent both frame and forks recently.  Never did back in the day.  Could be the pounds and not the pounding?

Tom,

I am honored you would ask.  A few years ago I walked out of court with two teens, a house and all that goes with that.  God has been good,  kids and I have been working on enduros,  (Little Burr, McArthur Ohio,  Sept 10) and a Dual Sport (Baby Burr in Oct, check out enduroriders.com).  Now one kid at The Ohio State University, and one jr in high school....  Still have a few Pentons sitting in the garage.

Karl,

For what this suggestion is worth...if you haven't already... check the ends of the reeds, where they were punched/machined/cut to make sure you don't have a burr.

Penton Talk / 1976 250's colors
August 05, 2002, 09:41:27 PM
One more thing...  I have a '76 that is orange with the straight leg cerianis, sun rims, big clutch actuator.. matches my '75 model, which is red.   Most of the 76s were like Rods' with the offset marzochis...

Our silent Penton collector from eastern OH has a red '76...exactly like our '75s models... only it has a one position rear shock (cantilevered)  a low breather frame and an MX pipe.  It is a KTM from Idaho.

The folks in Mattighofen never were afraid to make changes!!

I have to throw in with Rod on this one.\

The MC5s were not available here until '76; the GS6 models weren't available until around the dealer meeting in february of '77.  I remember going up to Lorain with my brother in frozen february of '77 to pick up his new GS.

They might have called the orange '76 enduro models "GS" in Europe, it being for "gelandesport".

For what its worth- the GS6 gets my vote for best penton for their time.  They had serious suspension for their time, were reliable,  and were faster than anything we rode back then.

Penton Talk / Plastic M20 bearings pros / cons?
August 01, 2002, 09:40:57 PM
Good points and good questions all around.

I had some concerns about the "plastic" parts pieces in my crank bearings also,  i have put about three really hard hours on the 250 engine so equipped and its holding up.  This doesn't mean it won't fail the next time i start it.

My question would be is there anyone who has had a lower end failure due to the "plastic" in their bearings?

Penton Talk / steering dampers
July 09, 2002, 08:16:43 PM
Two things:
First, tightening down the fork stem bolt(or the old knobs located on the stem on dkws) is bad bad bad.  It slows down turning at slow "bar turning speeds", the opposite of a modern hydraulic damper.

Second,  perhaps the AHRMA individual was refering to the road racing enthusiasts when he advised the use of steering dampers.

Third... i never saw such a thing in the day,  seriously doubt their legality at AHRMA.

Fourth... and most important...  compared to other machines of the time... did anyone have steering problems with a Penton????
