Penton Talk / Tank Mung????

Russ,
I had great luck cleaning out a rusty steel tank using 2 cartons of Daisy BB's and about 8 ounces of Naval Jelly.  I had to keep shaking and turning it until my arms nearly fell off but the tank was shiny inside when I finished.  I rinsed it out with hot soapy water followed by clean water followed by a pint of rubbing alcohol to absorb most of the remaining moisture.  It served me well for 17 years - never a problem with more rust, flaking, or clogging the fine filter screen built into the petcock.  You could try the BB's in your fiberglass tank and use a fiberglass-friendly solvent in place of the Navel Jelly.  Maybe one of the new citrus-based degreasers would dissolve that spooge in your tank.  The BB's did a good job of getting in the smaller areas of my steel tank, and I'm sure they wouldn't harm fiberglass.  Don't forget to remove the petcock and plug the hole!

Thank you all for the warm welcome, suggestions, and offers to help.  I contacted Al Buehner who's sending me the owners manual and parts list for my bike.  Right now I feel like a termite in a lumberyard - where do I start?  I think I'll wait for the manuals before I do anything too involved.  Perhaps just some cleaning and inspection are in order first.  Thanks again!

Penton Talk / Great Penton Manuals

I just received the Penton service and parts manuals from Al Buehner.  They have a wealth of info and are really well done. I highly recommend them, especially for those of us who are Penton "challenged".  Al, thanks for the manuals and the fast shipping!

Hello fellow POGers!  Just want to introduce myself as a new member.  My name's Todd and I have a lone Penton - a '75 250 kit bike.  Pentons seem scarce in So. Cal. so I just went with what I could find.  It's a little weathered but mostly complete, including a little compression & a trace of spark!  I've enjoyed working on the old bikes almost as much as riding them so I'm happy!  I'd like to first make it a good rider then a good looker.  Having been away from the sport for many years might make this project more challenging than initially planned but that's fine with me.  I figured joining up with you guys would offset that little handicap!  The POG website has already been real helpful and I look forward to giving something back.  Thanks!
