After talking with some very knowledgeable people I have it back together with a used stator. My question is how do I time this monster.

The one on the left: installed a new HPI ignition, EE Handguards, new grips, new clutch cable, lubed cables, new 36mm Mik carb. Awaiting new tires and installation of the centerstand — once the weather gets a little warmer and stabilizes. Looking forward to getting it out on the trails.
The one on the right: About 1 month ago, I pulled this bike out of the basement. It had sat down there,
mothballed & properly stored, for 12-13 years. New Plug, freshly cleaned filter, lubed cables, and a little fresh gas, and surprisingly it fired up on the first kick. Took for a little tour through my neighborhood. The only thing it needed was to have the seat cover "tightened" up -- which I've since had re-glued and riveted since this photo was taken in March. Other than that -- perfect. Needs nothing else. It's ready to ride.

Last post by Paul Danik - March 31, 2026, 06:10:30 AM53 years ago today was day 1 of the first ISDT Qualifier for 1973. The Fort Hood, Texas Two Days Trial was held on March 31 and April 1st of 1973. Interest in the 1973 ISDT Qualifier Series was quite high as the 1973 ISDT was going to be held in the United States. Many riders, myself included, had never even dreamed of having the opportunity to ride in an ISDT until the event came to the USA, thanks to John Penton, Al Eames and surely many others.
It is quite interesting to note that Malcolm Smith on a 250cc Husky won the Fort Hood event overall with Jack Penton taking second place on a 175cc Penton. Incredibly, the 3rd and 4th place overall finishers were both riding 100cc Pentons, Dane Leimbach took 3rd. with Billy Uhl taking 4th.
As the mental cobwebs have slowly cleared away a number of memories have surfaced from the Fort Hood event, as well as the Busted Piston Two Days Trial which was held in Potosi, Missouri the following weekend of April 7 & 8. Over the next week or so I will try to provide a glimpse into what it was like to travel in the Cycleliner with Jack, Dane and a few others as we rode both of those events in one trip.
The opportunities afforded to myself and surely many others by John Penton can never be fully conveyed, but hopefully my upcoming memories will provide you with a glimpse into those incredible times.

Penton Talk / Gathering in John Penton's yar...
Last post by Paul Danik - March 30, 2026, 01:34:35 PMI am quite sure that when the Penton Sportcycle became a reality in 1968 that John Penton never in his wildest dreams envisioned how many folks would come together in his backyard to celebrate that momentous occasion some 40 years later, as can be seen in the photo.
Just as those 40 years seemed to go by in a blink of the eye, so has the month of March, which means that the April meeting of the Penton Owners Group is coming upon us in short order. On Thursday April 2nd. at 7 P.M. the Penton Owners Group's monthly meeting will take place in the Jackpiner Room of the KTM office building, located just west of beautiful downtown Amherst, Ohio.
It will soon be 20 years since that photo was taken in John's backyard, but I am sure that for the folks who were there it was a day they will never forget.
