If the bike was a six - day enduro, I believe the sachs motor was a B motor in 1974.  The D motors were used for the motocross model from mid 1974 to 1975.  If the vin was before June, 1974, the bike had a B motor in it.  The experts can confim this comment.

Peter, I've heard you say this before, and I just want to set the record straight.
The Sachs "D" engines were not exclusively used in the '75 Penton MX model. Just as many are found in the Six-Day Enduro model.

I have a 1974 1/2 Enduro with a D motor.

I also have a 74 1/2 Enduro with a D Motor, that belonged to a dear friend of mine who passed a few years ago.  It is in my shop at present as I am preparing it for auction this month.

It will be auctioned off at the York Swap Meet & Auction on Jan. 20

And just clarify, mine is original. It had 364 miles on the odometer when I got it.

Don't, for the most part, the D-engine bike have the aluminum wheels? Mike

Rob,

thanks for the feedback.  I didn't know.  However, now I will pay close attention to the used six-days around new england which are 74 and a half plus.  There is one in NH. i should therefore go look at to see if it has a D motor in it.  keep in touch.

Maybe you guys can figure out what the heck this one is, I know it doesn't add up to me...

Frame build date is 403, March of 1974.

D cylinder with drill holes on each side for wire seal.

The head is not drilled.

The forks are the longer 35mm with ribbs.

There is a F stamped behind the oil fill plug.

6/1 is stamped on the top of the left engine case.

Koni shocks.

Steel wheels.

Oblong throttle like on the early Steel Tankers.

The sidecover is from a 100 6/B

55mm piston.

The frame has the loops for bungie tank hold downs.

Fiberglass exhaust cover.

Is this build date earlier than the other D powered machines? I also thought these forks were usually found on much later machines.

I plan on bringing this machine to York along with several others.

Any comments and thoughts are appreciated:)  It just seems like an early biuld date for the cylinder and forks, but maybe you guys see it differently.

I guess that, in conjunction with a possible purchase of this Six Day (less engine), I would be looking for a suitable engine.  Will someone please respond in general terms with the price and availability of a running engine with a functioning gearbox for this bike?
