Garrett,

Just for information, the cage in the photo of the 1981 250 air box is not the correct cage for a 1981.  That said, it may be the same outside dimension as the correct 1981 cage.

The 1981 250 & 390 models used an open wire oval cage.

I just did a fit check with my 72 6-day cage and no-toil air filter (I got them from Al B) on my 1979 mc80 250 ktm.  I had to reshape the wire cage a little to give it a little more oval of a shape, but it seems to fit like it was made for it.  I will know more when I take the air box off and can get a really good look at it.  I felt around the whole assembly and it was snug and really fit in there good especially around the base.  No slipping or sliding around, snug. 1st impression, I was happy with it.

I know I can make a little retaining bracket and Rod for it, but the air filter base seal has got to be perfect.  I will keep you posted.

The 78-81 wire cage also fits very snug at the base in the air boxes, I thik they are the same as the six-day cage. Mike

I have one of the plastic retaining brackets on hand and one of the rods somewhere around here.

1 thing I was thinking about today at work,  Would the span at the open end of the Air filter cage be to big and suck the air filter into the motor?  Maybe I need to make a little screen for the top of the cage?

Larry, could you please e-mail me directly at [email protected].  I have some questions I would like to ask you off line.  Thanks

Originally the open end of the cage was just covered by the air filter, and the open end of the filter foam was tucked under and around the carb end of the cage against the airbox. I am sure that the retaining bracket helps to hold the foam in place. Mike

I was wondering how many POGer's were going to LV.  I live so close, but The Motor cycle show is this weekend.  Have Fun
