I just picked up a weird bike. 1971 ATTEX 50cc Enduro. It has a Sachs 50cc motor just like Ron Carbaugh`s Schoolboy Monark. Can anyone give me information on this. The company makes 6 wheelers and is from Buffalo, New York.

Hello,  Speaking of weird bikes, I also have one.  It is supposedly a COLEMAN minibike.   I will describe it until I figure out how to attach photos to the message board.  It is a tube framed minibike, with front and rear suspension.  It has a SACHS 50cc two stroke engine with centrifugal clutch (I think it is called a Saxonette), and a rope to pull and start it.  It is either a one speed or two speed (like a moped).   Spoked chrome wheels.  Neat little bike.  It is more like a small motorcycle than a minibike. Does anyone know much about this vehicle?  Might consider selling, too.  I know how to attach photos to email if you are interested.  Spare engine included.   joe n.

Hello, It is Joe again.  Try to google Coleman minibike.  It gives links to sites.  Look at //www.minidoodle.com   One site said that one minibike was produced for Coleman and ATTEX.  Lots of pictures and info if you google it.  Good luck

This brings back some memories.  Right after WW II the Doodlebug scooters showed up in my hometown (Kenton, OH).  They were sold by a local hardware store.  A couple of kids had them, but they were beyond the finances of my family at the time.  I was 9 and working in the family business (ice cream store, deli and cafeteria).  There was no chance I could own one.

A couple of friends, farm boys, acquired Cushman motor scooters and that ended my desire for a Doodlebug.  I'm not sure, but I remember the Doodlebug as having a Clinton engine.

That was long time ago.

The ATTEX were manufactured for quite a while just north of Pittsburgh, the address can be seen in some of the literature on the website. I remember often driving past the location.

They had a race team for awhile and a local guy by the name of Deek Scott did well with them, Deek is the son of legendary dirt late model driver Herb Scott.

Not that this has anything to do with attex. But when it comes to doodles. My first bike was a Hiawatha Doodlebug of 1949 vintage. My grandfather the man that instilled my passion for motor vehicles of the two wheeled variety came up with it somewhere.Tube frame ultra modern fenders of the skirt variety Made of something like 15 ga. steel. This thing was heavier than a dead preacher. When I had it, it had a old techumseh with of all things a kickstart. The kickstarter mechinism alone wieghed like 15 pounds. But I was cool, very cool.
