I just finished watching Dust to Glory that I took out at the library which is the story behind the Baja 1000, great retro footage and awesome cinematography. I cannot imagine doing 110 mph on my Honda, although most of the riders had a case of permagrin when they got off of their rides!

I love that movie, I have seen it so many times I have lost count... It will remind you a little of "on any Sunday" that probably because it it made by Dana Brown, the son of Bruce Brown... the maker of on any sunday...

It gives you a great idea of what racing in Baja is about. Most of the racers over the years are D37 desert alumni where I race(d). I never raced Baja because of all the issues associated with being in Mexico and a lack of security (regarding safety) on the course. I did however get to race Barstow to Vegas 3 times (1973,1974, and 1986) and Check Chase (29 Palms to Parker Arizona) 2 times (1974 and 1982). There is no other feeling like hauling across open desert on a bike!

I never did a desert race, the closest thing I have ever done was a one hour GP or the hare scrambles I have done. hard for me to do anything but go for it...what a rush. but to do a desert race... I can not even begin to think what that might be like..  It takes me two days to recover after an hour long event... aid car please...

I never got to fly a jet or ride on the space shuttle but have been fortunate enough in my life to have ridden most of the "E" ticket rides and the desert has been one of my faves.  And when it comes to desert there is nothing compareable to Baja.  It is like racing motorcycles in the old West.  It has it all-Speed, fear, lawlessness, and beauty.  You leave thinking-Thank God it is over, when can I go back?  LOL!  I am thankful I got to do it and hope I will again perhaps with Tom and Ric as they are the best team members I have ever raced with.  They are true "Team Players" and that is what it takes to survive and excel South of the border.  100 mph on a dirt bike brings new meaning to words like speed, fear, and death.[:0]

I have to admit, that the Baja is appealing to me... I would love to try but I would need a team of riders....Maybe one day...
