I found this pic of a 76 MC5 w/ what appears to be an aluminum swingarm. Did any company make these and has anyone seen one and if so I would like to purchase it .  Can one from a diiferent make be adapted if so. Also a picture of my 77 that I am considering it for Thanks Tom      IMG]http://i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/yz360a/fritz-schneider-1976.jpg[/IMG]

Tom,
I am not sure what make that early aftermarket swingarm is in your picture, but you can mount a 1979-early 1980 KTM MC 250 swingarm on your 77 MC5. In some cases it may require shaving a little matterial from the front of the swingarm or the rear of the engine case to provide adequate clearance when the shocks are fully extended to prevent rubbing the rear of the engine case. I have one on a 77 MC5 125/175 chassis with a 78 250 engine and it required a little grinding. They are usually available for around $75 if you are patient or $99 on eBay right now. I have an extra one, but need to get a frozen axle bolt out to get the wheel off of it. I would take $60 plus shipping for it once the axle bolt is removed if you are interested. Keep in mind that it may not be considered AHRMA Historic Class legal, but I am not sure about that.
**As pointed out by Dave Sanders, different length shocks will be required unless you move the shock mounts. Mike [email protected]

From the looks of the pic it seems as though the arm is a banana type arm (Fox,Thor type). I am only considering this if I could find something similar or specifically made for this bike (longshot? maybe ! ) My plan is to cross country it only and if it makes it non legal then I will have a race set and a display set.

I have only seen swingarms like that in old pics, with maybe one exception, so I wish you luck in finding one. Maybe someone here might be able to point you in the right direction. Mike

There is a guy in AZ that has a 1979 MC80 frame and swing arm for sale. I think there is a little difference in the way the rear of the engine mounts to the frame and swing arm, but, I am not sure.  Others know this issue better than me,  Hopefully Lloyd B will bring his MC-5 this weekend to the race and I could compare his bike to my 79 MC80 with the Al. Swing arm. If you want the guys phone number or e-mail AD send me a e-mail at [email protected]

I'm sure Mikes would be a better deal.  My guy in AZ took some prodding to get the parts I needed from him.
