Bob,
I just ran across a similar bike.  Can you send me a close up of both side covers,  Thanks.

When is the last time that you saw one of those rubber frame to air cleaner boots in good shape? Most of them usualy wind up being wrapped with duct tape. Mike

I think it's just a cross section piece of inner tube.

It's the most water resistant Penton I've ever seen. The inner rear mud flap covers a wide area, and goes all the way down to the top of the swingarm.

Ron, Absolutely - Do you mean the engine's side cases, or the plastic side panels ?

Bob,
That air cleaner to frame rubber has an actual part # 55.06.005.000 for 125-400, referred to as a "rubber" but an inner tube would definitely work. Mike

Riddle me this Batman...the plastic cover on the side opening of the air filter box -would it fit on the side opening of the MC5 air filter box also or are they physically different?  My MC5 doesn't have such a cover for the opening and it seems to invite all kinds of foreign material. The side cover on that side of the bike does not EVEN seal up well against the box. I am probably going to make some kind of seal on the inside of the side cover OR make myself a nice duct tape cover. [}:)]

If the answer is yes it will fit, you can already anticipate my next question, El Poggero's. [:I]

Nice GS400 "project". And what a great (side)story about an auction selling brand new bikes 10 years later.

Yes, The MC5 airbox is the same, and Al Buehner probably has the covers in stock. You will probably have to call and ask him, since I don't see them on his website. I gave one to Don at DC Plastics to reproduce, but I don't think that he ever got around to it. The MC5 and GS6 models without the cover in place that I have seen usually had a foam seal glued to the side panel that helped keep the dirt out. Mike

Many thanks! Great pix.  Is there a rubber insulating ring for the headlight inside the nacelle?

Has anyone picked up on the 250 GS6 in Atlanta?  Looks pretty original too?

John,
The chassis manual does not show a rubber ring of any kind around the headlight, only a bracket and coil above the headlight and a pvc bracket under it to clamp it in place. I know that the earlier metal headlight housings had the rubber insulating ring around the headlight. Mike

Who says Pentons cannot be a good investment? Better than flipping clapped out houses. Find yourself a Penton and a little hi-temp paint and voila, you are in business. And if your avarice knows no boundaries then a $4k BIN seems like a good idea too. Of course this is a free country and free market so I would not have it any other way. This is to keep the story sort of open. Caveat emptor.

With the economy and money valuation in such termoil, It seems to me that items of value may be worth more that money in the bank soon. Mike
