I still have the original red MX tank off my 74 Penton Berkshire.  I had it in a garage sale for $20, but it never sold.   It still has the masking tape tag with price on it...   Still just sitting there.   joe

gooddirt

ahh... but does your tank have the new smell of fiberglass? ... so sell it or put it on a bike... does no one any good sitting up in the rafters...:D I think garage-sales demand only 2 cents on the dollar for any item. LG

firstturn

Well, Joe I will give you $20.00.  Larry I sent you an email?

Joe, I'll give you $40, plus pay the shipping !

Victor

Larry, old buddy, I could use the red mx'er...if Ron doesn't want it.

Joe - I am interested in your tank if you are willing to let it go.

I chipped the tank on my Berkshire project bike while dueling in the woods with Bob Rigby on his 490 Maico at the Tulsa ISDTRR.

Since I am no longer riding I would like to finish the bike with a really clean tank so that I can display it.

You can see pictures of my bike here:

You can email me at [email protected] if you are intereseted.

Thanx,

Clark Gristina

Clark,
How badly was your tank damaged? I can repair it and coat the inside with POR-15, and if you have it re-painted, it would look like new unless the damage is very extensive. Mike

Thanks Mike - I really appreciate the offer, and may eventually take you up on it.

The chip is about the size of a dime, and all the way through the gel coat (color layer). Of course it's right on top...

I prefer to find a good clean tank that I can compound, wax, and use. I am capable of painting it myself, but have never done any fiberglass repair.

I am really hoping to keep the bike with an unpainted tank if possible.

I do have red & green toaster tanks available for trade, or am willing to pay cash.

PS - I have been successful soaking old tanks in a 5 gallon bucket for 3-4 weeks in a solution of mean green, spic-n-span, mineral spirits, and water.

Every week or so I just refresh the solution, and keep doing so until the primordial ooze stops coming.

After 2 years - no problems with the completed tank.
