I have a Sachs 250 piston, cyl. & head I want to get rid of. It seems in decent enough condition. Don't know what year(s) though.

Those had to come from a 1976-77 Hercules GS250/7a .  I have one of those.

Need spares?  I'll have to see what parts numbers are stamped on them.

On a side note I managed to pick up a 1980 KTM 400 for $400. It's got spark & decent compression, but some old gas in it. Maybe I ought to put the 400 motor in my jackpiner!:D

Hi Mike, I have a 76 Hercules 250. How much are you asking? I might be interested. That Jack O'Mint would be an interesting machine!!

Are you sure it's not a 420, with the swingarm bolt that doubles as the rear motor mount on the engine case? KTM introduced the 420 in middle-late '79 and didn't make a 1980 400. Othewise it may be an early 79 400. They look almost identical except for the slotted side panels that were used in 1980, but are interchangeable so you can't really go by that. 79's start with a 9 on the frame number and 1980 starts with 0. Same thing with the engine 9-55xxxx for 79 400, also 9-56xxxx for 79 420, or 0-56xxxx for 1980 420. If it's a 420, it will not fit in the earlier chassis. Mike

Sort of off topic but interesting.  Years ago in earlier AHRMA racing Barry Higgins figured out how to put a 420 topend on a 400 bottom amd Vintaged it till AHRMA squelched it.

John,

I'd like to get $100 out of it. + postage or MidOhio

Oh, I'm positive about the 400. The first three #'s on the frame are 008 and the motor is a 55. Don't know about the first # on the motor. And it doesn't have the swing arm pivot through the cases. But it does have a similar style swingarm and slotted panels. Believe me, I wish was a 420. I wanted to put that motor into my 82 250 enduro & make a vintage supermoto. (can't do pics from work)

Great I'll take if Dwight hasn't spoken for it. Mid-O should work well. Let me know how to pay. Thanks. John
