I forgot exactly what the original hardware looked like, used in mounting the MC5 front number plate.
I gave away my last manual with a MC5 I sold .

This is rigged up using a 4.00x 18 inner tube, and some 1/8" alum. welding rod.
How's it look - am I close ? Thanks, Bob

Bob,

That is better than original.
The original had 2 rubber bands like yours but used a 2" straight rod to hold the band in place. I could never figure out how that was supposed to work. Your bent pin is a much nicer set-up. You should have sold your idea to KTM in the 70's.

Yea, I like that idea, I quess it is time to change that out... I am still running the stock number plate and Al is right, each fork leg uses two 1/8 inch rods. The rubberband wraps around the fork leg and stick through the front of the number plate. then a rod is inserted keeping the rubberband from pulling back out of the number plate.. In the past I used a couple of 7 penny Galv. nails and I cut the heads off..  It worked fine but it never looked very clean..
