From the spring of 1972, through the summer of 1973, the Penton Six-Day reigned King of the 125 class in motocross.

Then that darn Elsinore reared it's ugly head and the rest was history.[xx(]

Neat pic - but is that a conical front hub off of a Hercules that I see?

Good ride, way to go Ric !

I think that's a Rickman front hub.

This picture is of Tim Lunde at Mammoth Mt. CA,  in '73.
He won this day - beating Danny LaPorte on a Penton, Carl Cranke on a Penton, and Marty Smith on a Monark.

Rob, neat pic and great info! never saw that picture before. I think that Tim had a brother that was really fast also.

Pretty sure those are A & A fenders. Husky rear, and ? front.

I put A & A fenders on my '73 Berkshire. These are a CZ rear, and Maico front. Pipe cut with Bassani silencer.

Picture (negative is reversed) was taken at a Redbud race.
That's my dad, at the one and only race he ever came to watch me at.

I was wondering how your Dad compressed the front suspension so far, until I noticed the tie-down straps.   joe

Rob,
I raced from 1966 thru 1973. In 66 I was 14 and in those 8 years, my dad only came to 1 of my races. He hated the thought of me racing motorcycles, although he always thought he was helping me by staying away. So, I kinda understand your feelings on that.
Once in 69 my Six Day had a flat on the rear, so while I was at work he took it off and replaced the tube. At the time I thought that was just great, until Sunday at the track in the 1st 125 moto, as I got the hole shot and was about 200 yards in front on lap 3, the rear wheel locked up. He had put that spacer in the wrong location and the friction between the swingarm and the sprocket hub got too hot and welded the aluminum to the swingarm. As I reflect back, it was the thought that counted.

Rob/Donny,I burned a copy of MXA's Jody's Box column-"My Father never saw me race".I've been waiting for the appropiate time to give it to my Pops.I've decided to give it to him with a note attached asking if he wants to go to the Speedworld AVDRA vintage mx race with me on May 1st.The appropiate time will be tomorrow.I HOPE after May 1st i can no longer say "my Father never saw me race"....

right with ya on that one guys. My pops saw me race one time but I didn't see him there. My parents were going through a divorce and he said he had to sneak in so my mom wouldn't see him there. Always was a little painful to see other dad's so involved. It's a "family" sport but not always huh.

My Dad raced desert here in California back in the fifties.
He rode Big Bear, Catalina Gran Prix, etc. I have faint memories of it, but I sure got the bug for motorcycles.
When all my friends started riding in the sixties, my Dad forbid me to ride. Always said he didn't want me getting hurt on them.
I managed to sneak a few rides though.
I didn't get my first bike until I moved out at 19 yrs old, a 1970 Yamaha 175 CT1.
I started my son riding when he was 6 yrs old and wer'e still riding together today.
I wouldn't trade all the great times wev'e shared togehter for the world.
I finally got him into vintage bikes, he's 28 now, me 57.
I'm building a 79 Husky 390CR for him, should be ready in a couple months.
