Greetings All,

Since I am new to this forum I would like to introduce myself. I recently purchased a '73 125 Six-day bike from Larry Perkins and am looking forward to a little trail riding in the future here in the "Mountains" of South-central Pennsylvania. Larry and I are currently trying to work out an arrangement to move the bike from IL to PA.

Since I am well into my "senior" years, the riding will be a bit more sedate than what I did in the 70s.:) In the 70s I raced mostly local hare scrambles, a few MXs and a handful of national enduros that happened to be run in this area. I raced a couple of 125 Pentons and one of the first gold-tank 250s in the mid-Atlantic states in 1973 (I think that was the year).

Currently, I am more-or-less retired and living not far from Gettysburg. I do have a small business unrelated to motorcycles, though. The business designs, builds and sells compression tester systems for rotary (aka, ****el) engines. We have been in business since 2006 and have sold our systems to Mazda dealerships, major race teams and race engine builders, and to individual enthusiasts. If you would like to know more check out our primitive web site at: //www.RotaryDiagnostics.com.

I also have a turbo-charged, 2nd generation RX-7 that I run in High Performance Driving Events, primarily at Summit Point (WV) and VIR near Danville, VA.

So that's about it for an intro. Be seeing you on this forum I'm sure when I get into restoring the 125.

Larry,
Welcome to the Penton Owners Group.  There are plenty of wise people who love to help others that own Penton.  Also, I have a Friend from here in Texas that is on assignment at a Helicopter  plant somewhere in Southeastern Pennsylvania that has a turbo Rotery that he built from scratch.

Welcome to the group!  I'm currently planning on attending the Casey, Illinois AHRMA race June 21st and can start the bike east.  No July POG meeting though, next meeting is VMD.

Appreciate the welcomes!

Dale: Thanks for the offer. I'll keep that in mind. Currently trying to arrange to have it shipped if the price is right. Otherwise, I will pick it up at the AHRMA event in Athens that was just postponed until 17-19 June due to local flooding and heavy rains.

Ron: Have your friend check out my primitive web site to see what we have to offer. Our systems are much cheaper than the Mazda tester system.

Thanks Larry...he is one of the best I have seen without any schooling.  He used to work for Mooney.

Larry,

Welcome aboard, it is great to have another Pennsylvanian in the Group... I am located in Mars, just north of Pittsburgh.

There are a couple of great vintage swapmeets in York, PA at the fairgrounds in the fall/winter months, maybe you have already been to them.

Did you ever MX near Port Matilda at Bond Way's track, or possibly run against one of my mentors, Gig Hamilton? Lots of great tracks and folks in the eastern part of the state.

Take care,
Paul

Hi Larry, welcome!  Im in Pittsburgh.  The Penton Underground Railroad is the most reliable and interesting way to ship a Penton but if that does not work out then consider Uship.  It is a reverse auction site and I've had three great experiences using it and no bad ones. You can ship a bike a stove or a cow if you want.  Sometimes the shipper runs an old pickup and sometimes a cabover.  It is completely free-market.  Good luck!  John

But sometimes with uship there might be a cow and your nice bike in the back of an old truck in the rain.

Paul: Thanks for the welcome. The wife has/had relatives in Mars and Pittsburgh so I'm familiar with the Mars placename.

No, I never ran at that track. Most of the events I ran were in MD, VA and NJ. (I lived in MD at the time.) Ran mostly local club endurance events including Budds Creek. I did run the Blue Ridge National and Back Mountain enduros, but I think those were the only "big" events I ran. Only ran a few MX events.

I only recently learned of the York swapmeets so I will definitely be at the next event. Looking forward to meeting some of the fine folk on the message board.

Marsattacks: Thanks! Considered the Uship option, but Larry P and I are trying to work out an alternate shipping arrangement. Not real comfortable with Uships operating procedure.

However, if any message boarders happen to be headed from the general IL area to OH/PA or points East in the near future, I would appreciate a transport. You can post here or email me at: [email protected].

Welcome to the POG Larry. I think you'll like your new family.

Larry,

Where did you live and ride in MD?  I have been envolved with MC's in MD and the Baltimore County Trail Riders since 1970.

Like everywhere, there are fewer tracks than in the 70's, but still alot of racing going on, MX, dirt track, & Enduros.

Welcome to POG.

Jack: Thanks for the welcome. I'm sure I will enjoy exchanging information with the fine folk on the board. Actually, the exchange may be mostly one way--towards me.:) Been out of the motorcycle scene for a long time so I have a lot to catch up with.

Tony: In the early 70s I lived in Rockville (Twinbrook) and trail rode wherever could get away with it in Montgomery County.:) As I mentioned I ran a few hare scrambles at Budds Creek. Also ran local hare scrambles events mostly in the Northern and Western MD areas. Some of the clubs were Shiloh, near Clarksburg; Antietam, in Hagerstown, SMRR in southern MD, and Terra M.A., they may actually be in NJ. Bought 2 of my Pentons from a dealer in the Baltimore area whose name escapes me at the moment.

That would be Motor Sports Center in Baltimore. I still race my Jackpiner that I bought from them in '73. Dwight Gill probably sold you your bike and he still races AHRMA as well.
