Always interesting.... especially since it originated from boxes of parts.  Anyone able to substantiate the John Penton ISDT connection??

I don't believe that Dave Mungenast ever road a Husky in an ISDT. I believe John Penton did at least once after the Penton motorcycle was introduced, but I wouldl have to research that. I think I remember reading it in the Youngblood book. The seller doesn't even spell Ron Bohn's name correctly. ( I may also be wrong, but I'll bet I'm close.) The only way I would believe it right off is if the tech inspection paint were still on it, and the rider numbers still etched in it. I'll have to do some research.

I'll correct myself. Dave Mungenast did ride Husky that year, but DNFed due to injury. he was on the Trophy Team with the others mentioned. I'm surprised Bruce Brown didn't work Whitey Martino into the ISDT portion of "On Any Sunday" since he was so prominent in the desert racing sequences. I would figure that Edison Dye (sp?) might have had some record of bikes procured for the ISDT for that year? Especially equipment shipped to the west coast? It will be interesting to find out for sure.

Whitey Martino got hurt really bad when he tried to jump a sandwash that he did not see (or was marked)due to it being on a slight uphill angle. The wash was from that point on called "Whitey's Wash". It is located in Fremont Valley in an area which is now closed to riding. I suspect that his injuries from that crash came into play for him not riding the 6 Day. Rick aka "Sixdazed" is a Checker and can probably provide more info than I know.

SoCal,I think i know the wash you're talking about@fremont valley(maybe from DRA days when i sometimes helped mark the courses).I didn't know Whitey at the time,as i was just a snot-nosed little desert rat(on a super rat)at the time.Dingus(Don Watkins Sr.)would for sure know, but he's at the big smoke bomb in the sky,I'll ask John Rogers,he may know. Also,i've been hanging around the Checkers since the early 70's,some taught me how to ride/read desert, etc.and some co-rode bitd+score races with me and luckily i've been pitted by the club a lot, rode Memorial rides for fallen Checkers, heck J.R.was even bestman at my wedding, but i'm not a charter member as i can't make the meetings(live in Az. now)+don't do D37 much.I'm a Checker in spirit for sure though. If i learn anything about Whiteys Wash i'll let you know,Ric

Spoke to J.R.-he didn't know about the Whitey 6 day bike, but said Fremont Valley is further north than what i was thinking.I'll keep asking around and see what i can find out.

I have not been on the site for a couple of weeks so this is my first opportunity to post. Fremont Valley is between Hwy 14 just past Jawbone Canyon along Randsburg/Garlock road up until the hills that Randsburg is located. According to "The Banner Is Up" District 37 history website. Whitey's Wash is near Koehn Dry Lake at the south part of the valley. Government Peak is at the top of the hills overlooking Fremont Valley and California City (riding areas) are on the opposite side of the hills. Use to be great riding all around there until Uncle Sam closed it down. Too bad.

The John Penton ISDT Husky is back apparently with documentation this time.  No mention that it was assembled from a box of parts like the last listing [?]

I guess as in politics if you tell a story often enough it becomes truth. As I said last time this bike surfaced, it is NOT the bike J.P. rode at the Six Day in Spain. I have pictures of the real bike and this ebay listing is not the same. If you look closely at the paperwork offered as proof, no where does it say this is the bike that J.P. rode at the Six Day event.
Yes, ISDT bikes were refurbished and imported as used bikes offered to the riders at a 30 percent discount.
Yes, J.P. bought some of these bikes.
NO, this is not the one he rode at the ISDT in Spain.
As a final note, I do believe this bike was one of those bikes ridden over there, just not the one Mr. Penton rode. Is it a nice bike, you bet.

It's back again with some photos and videos on FB.  Apparently high bid was $19,500 although the tag on the number plate has a $25K asking price.  This time the seller included a skunk stripe helmet for visual effect.

Seller says so, must be true....;)

I like how the frame # is covered on the invoice showing john purchasing the bike. bet that doesn't match.

Just might have to show this item during the POG meeting as part of the eBay report....I wonder if it might stir a bit of discussion..
