I just learned this morning that James Smith lost his home in Brighton on December 22nd.  To those of you familiar with AHRMA, James is an off-road tech inspector and avid mx and xcty racer.  Attached is the link to the post on the AHRMA site from Chris his sister.

Wow that's a real bummer around the holidays.  Glad he and his family are ok.  Loosing pets can be devastating though.

Dear friends,

James Smith, fellow motorcyclist and an ardent supporter of our Carolinas White Lightning Cross Country Classic, lost his home in a house fire on December 22.

James, wife Lorie, children Josie and Ellie are all healthy and uninjured. Fortunately they were not at home when the fire occurred.

Regardless, the entire family is understandably heartbroken. It is a very difficult time for them.

The family lost their dogs, Baxter and Mistie, and cat Sophie to smoke inhalation.

The house is badly fire, smoke and water damaged. I have no information as to when work will begin on assessing and repairing or replacing the house.

James and his father-in-law Corky Root perform tech inspection at our event, which is two rounds of The American Historic Motorcycle Association / Penton Owners Group National Cross Country Championship Series.

James is the son of 1964 & 1965 FIM 500cc Motocross World Champion and International Six Days Trials veteran Jeff Smith.

This is a sad situation at anytime, but extra sad this time of year.

James' sister Chris has set up a website for those who wish to help the family with a financial contribution:

http://smiths-brighton.blogspot.com/

If you want to send something directly to the family, their mailing address remains as follows:

The Smith Family
3155 Van Amberg Rd.
Brighton, MI 48114

They live just outside of Detroit.

I hope you will join me in placing the Smith family in your thoughts and prayers.
