Silencer Packing

Hi All, I know there is specific material for silencer packing, but what other materials have you used that worked in a pinch?

I have used fiberglass pipe wrap, works great and is available at most any auto parts store.  It's the same stuff some people use on the outside of some rat road bike pipes.  I just pull the silencer wrap a few layers on and then hold it in place by coiling some bailing wire around it.
