I believe all of the MC5's were orange, at least east of the Mississippi river in 76 and 77.  The GS6 machines, made in 77, were all orange that I know of other than what was sold on the west coast.  I think some of them out west were blue.  Can anyone confirm this?  The blue bikes might have been sold as KTM's when things were changing over.  The enduro model GS bikes in 76, old stlye frame, could have been red or orange, I've seen both.  In 1976, I had a 250 GS, old style frame, marzzochi leading axle fork, and orange tank.  I have also owned a 76 250 red tank with Ceriani straight leg forks.  Anything was possible.  Rarely were 2 Penton's just exactly alike at the dealer, they were always making changes.  That is one of the reason's they were so good!!

I am not a 100% sure on this, but I don't think the MC5's were available until 1976 in the US, and the only one's that I have ever seen have been orange.  What is the serial numbers of your bikes?
thanks

The deal on the mc-5s was when Penton went to orange in 76 Ktm kept the red[250] and white[400] colors west of the Big Muddy.

Mike, was the G.S.in 1976 red?

I have to throw in with Rod on this one.\

The MC5s were not available here until '76; the GS6 models weren't available until around the dealer meeting in february of '77.  I remember going up to Lorain with my brother in frozen february of '77 to pick up his new GS.

They might have called the orange '76 enduro models "GS" in Europe, it being for "gelandesport".

For what its worth- the GS6 gets my vote for best penton for their time.  They had serious suspension for their time, were reliable,  and were faster than anything we rode back then.

One more thing...  I have a '76 that is orange with the straight leg cerianis, sun rims, big clutch actuator.. matches my '75 model, which is red.   Most of the 76s were like Rods' with the offset marzochis...

Our silent Penton collector from eastern OH has a red '76...exactly like our '75s models... only it has a one position rear shock (cantilevered)  a low breather frame and an MX pipe.  It is a KTM from Idaho.

The folks in Mattighofen never were afraid to make changes!!
