Toni and I both competed in this years Vintage Motorcycle Days.

I rode Kent Knudson's Penton Trials in the Trials event on Sunday (Thanks Kent...your bike rocks...well, at least it goes over them really easy!), and I won the Old School Expert class.

The Old School Class is for pre '72 model year bikes, and there were only 3 of us in the Expert class this year. I beat out a 21 year old rider on a '65 Greeves 250, and a 25 year old rider on a '68 Bultaco 250. If you add both of their ages together, I still have them by 6 years!

Toni rode the Hare Scrambles on her '76 Cross Country 175 on Friday, the Motocross on her yellow '73 Jackpiner 175 on Saturday, and the Trials on our '76 Yamaha TY175 on Sunday. She won her class in all 3 events!!!

The AMA crowns an Off-Road Vintage Grand Champion and a Senior Off-Road Vintage Grand Champion every year at VMD. It's awarded to the rider who has the best combined results from the Hare Scrambles, Motocross, and Trials. The AMA doesn't offer a championship for the women, and Toni was the only woman to compete in all 3 events, so Bob Wentzel and Dave Smeal (the 2015 Senior Grand Champion) decided to make her the "Unofficial 2015 AMA Women Off-Road Vintage Grand Champion"! Dave let her use his Championship cup for this picture.

That's awesome!! Congrats to you and Toni!!
I need to make it there one year. Too dang far away (Arizona) but from Toledo.
The original Mid-Ohio was my favorite !!!

Congratulations to Toni (and you too Gary...).  What a great story (stories!) and a worthy Grand Champion.  Thank you for the photos and  - as usual - I am not surprised by the excellent bikes/bike prep that Team Pento-Varna are known for.

TooClose Racing was NOT in the house this year, and while part of me missed VMD, that's just how it rolled.  As Arnold would say "I'll be back..."

Now - I haven't heard from Mr. Gary Ellis regarding his racing experience.  And did Micky M. make an appearance?  Enquiring minds want to know!

Again - thanks Gary and Toni for sharing. NICE swag (trophies)!

By loaning an ignition to Bob Bean so that he could compete also makes you champions in our book!:)
