Exhaust Leak

Greetings. I'm working on reviving a '77 GS6 175 and can't figure out how to stop an exhaust leak where the pipe meets the manifold. I think it is an MC5 pipe since it has a short silencer.

Couple observations:
- The spigot coming out of the exhaust manifold is not tight. It will spin and wiggle a little.
- The pipe is a little loose (maybe .5mm) on the spigot.
- There is a sleeve that slides over the end of the pipe before it slides onto the spigot.

Is there some trick to this? I'm thinking maybe some high temp fiberglass rope seal between that sleeve and the spigot? I've considered using some high temp RTV sealant (in moderation) but that's gonna make a mess and I doubt it would last very long.
Also, is it normal for the spigot to be a little loose in the manifold?

All of the Aluminum 175 manifolds I have seen have been at least a little loose. I usually use some Hi-Temp silicone on all my Penton/KTM pipes when re-installing the, after a fresh repaint or removal for routine maintenance to cut down on Spooge from Golden Spectro oil leaking out of the manifold and creating a messy condition. i use it on all of the standard manifolds as well, including my RM Suzukis. It does help and lasts quite a while. Mike
